Where do you people get the money?

How much did everyone pay for their last car ?

Also I feel that HT at the moment is wayyy overpriced at the moment.

There is no “at the moment” about it, there is not a likelihood that prices will drop significantly in any foreseeable future.

I do not like the prices either but it IS a cosmetic procedure. Anybody who says their life was ruined by hair loss (and I know of what I speak, I went from a NW1 to a NW6+ in my twenties in four years flat) should try living in places like Darfur for a while…

» A lot really depends on your expectations. Approach cautiously, where
» possible, do smaller sessions.

Sage advise. I will add, do small sessions with fue.

Dont think car and ht’s really match. With a car you know what you are going to get. Not like ht, you dont know how long you will keep losing, you are not sure whether you will be able to afford if you went from stage 4 to 6.

With cars, I know the proces and the likely maintenance costs.

Dr Narayan,
Based on your premise why should anyone get a transplant and pay for the risk ? Anyone that goes for transplant always hopes for a good outcome but of course there are no guaranteess.

You make a valid point regarding the purchase of the car . ( I know many of you are wondering why is he talking about a car- because it is a purchase that nearly everyone can relate) As you stated people do know what they are getting when purchasing a new car = GUARANTEED DEPRECIATION . The point is people are willing to make purchases such as automobiles that actually guarantee depreciatein value as soon as you drive it off the lot = but transplants are considered out of reach expensive. A car of $25,000 will depreciate by 50-75% here in the U.S in 5-7 years (depending on mileage, etc ) but individuals are willing to take that inevitable loss /depreciation without a second thought . That was the point I was making .

You cant compare a car to a ht. A car is a necessity (unless you want a Mercedes) but HT is luxury item.

A car will last you a few years but an HT will last a lifetime. And probably make you a lot happier too.

You are right. It is all about priority . If you want to drive an expensive automobile or have expensive toys to play with you might have to do without your hair back because you cant afford it . If you want to drive a much less expensive automobile (used) or have less expensive play toys (boats etc) then you can maybe work your transplant plan . I’m a firm believer in people do what they set their mind too if they want or something bothers them bad enough they will make sacrifices to some degree. I have certainly had too.

I’m a firm believer that I have seen too many folks have that drive to spend, spend, spend… pay for thousands of grafts over 20 years time that resulted in nothing. I know a guy that spent $160,000 that resulted in sparse crap.

Sacrifices don’t always pay off and in this industry IMO only a small percentage pays off.

Hi Heliboy,

Whoa! 19,000 grafts!
How much have you spent in total.

Btw, your current results look fantastic. I’m happy for you. =)

God bless.

» Well, as we all know hair transplant is a VERY costly procedure.
»
» A rough estimate of costs is at least 5 figures! Where do you peeps get
» the money? Or are you all millionaires?
»
» Just curious.

I moved home to my parents house 2 years ago to save money for future surgeries… it really sucks, but I have no choice…

» » Hairtech how did you get sucked into this industry anyway ? Care to
» share
» » ?
»
» Just happened to move to Atlanta… and applied for a job. When I began
» working at at the clinic, we had a huge exodus of employees two weeks
» after I started which left pretty much two techs. And i was one of the
» two which was completely un-trained. So I had to learn fast. And that is
» how I got sucked into the drama of this industry. It was in the beginning
» stages of FUE coming to the United Stated back in 2002/03. Now time has
» passed. I am not so ignorant to the real issues of HT anymore. It is
» driven by just a few folks who have money. Spencer Kobren is one of the
» controlling factors in HT. A true patient advocate or a doctor that cares
» about this industry would reach out his had and shake those hands that try
» to do the same in any medium and especially forums and those who work at
» clinics. But this is simply not true. I feel bad for anyone trying to find
» the truth outside of these forums period. And only a couple of the forums
» I can say I would even trust. Even though Hairsite deletes a lot of text,
» I trust this site more than other sites. This is because there are unpaid
» poster regulators here that don’t put up with garbage. I also trust
» hairlossadvances for the same reasons. If you go to any other forum you
» might as well forget it. Sorry I went on a tangent but it is simply my
» opinion.

Hair Tech … who do you think are the better HT docs? In other words … which docs have the best results?

Alex

So are you saying that HT is wildly inconsistent even with the same doctor? Is it continued fallout, a combination of factors or what? Can you provide a list of the main reasons why one guy gets a satisfactory result and another gets screwed. Perhaps you could rank the list in order of importance.

Thanks!

Ok let me compile a post for both of you guys and I will give you my honest opin ion.

So the question is
Where do you people get the money?

Good question. I would like to know too, since Id` like to have a HT in future.

From what I understand most take a loan.

» Ok let me compile a post for both of you guys and I will give you my honest

Hairtech, maybe i’m late to the party, but are you still a hair tech? You used to work for Dr. Cole? Can I email you a personal question?

» I only spent about $5000 in total over 10+ years, I consider myself very
» fortunate.
»
» I credit that to the medications that more or less maintain my hair count
» over the years, plus a conservative approach toward HT. Just as important
» is SMALLER SESSIONS. Had I gone for a mega-session the first pass, I would
» probably be doing touch-up and repair work every 2 years and spending a lot

»
» Technically I can use another 1500-2000 grafts to restore my
» hairline+temples to perfection, but as I get older I become less obsessed
» about having a perfect hairline.
»

Could you tell me your regimen please !

Late to the party, and short on originality.

Can I email you a personal question?

“Can you help me come up with a user name?”

Important factors for a good transplant.

  1. What is your pattern of loss and age. (Norwood)
  2. Familial and medical history… including medications.
  3. Previous work (HT i.e. plug, etc)
  4. Mental Status
  5. Donor Hair Density
  6. Hair Characteristics
  7. Finances
  8. Procedure Type (Strip/FUE/Combo)
  9. Clinic
  10. Plan devised during consultation.

All of these factors are important. What you have to remember is to be thorough in your research before going to your first consultation. Each of these factors can be further divided and expanded.
