First, this was posted in the wrong forum.

Second, the finasteride is raising your testosterone. Your body detects that your DHT is being lowered from finasteride and is compensating by producing more testosterone (and estrogen and estradiol).

You’re not likely to be happy about the results of actually lowering your test levels.

Getting more hair is all well and good right up until your dick stops working, you put on weight, and you get very depressed & lethargic & moody.

I agree with cal, what’s the point of having hair if you can’t get it up.

My testosterone levels average around 1200ng/dl and I don’t use any type of medications, prescription or otc. So it’s not necessarily the finasteride. Testosterone levels can be raised by diet and lifestyle. Be happy you have a higher testosterone level, it’s a good thing.

If you really want to lower it, become a vegatarian, eat plenty of soy, do a massive amount of aerobics, and stay out of the sunlight.

Testosterone does not have an affect on hair loss. DHT does. Testosterone is converted into many hormones including DHT. If you block the conversion of Testosterone into DHT, Testosterone levels should increase. In fact, Propecia is supposed to raise testosterone levels. For this reason, some weight lifters thought it was a good idea to take propecia. I generally find that the increase is minimal, however.

You might find that your lab level is simply an error. it is minimally elevated. The main thing to do is verify that you do not have some other exogenous cause of an elevated testosterone level. Some individuals have a level above 1000 and this is perfectly normal for them. Testosterone levels decrease over time as you age. Higher levels are associated with a reduced risk of heart attack or high blood pressure.

the elevated testosterone level will not increase your hair loss as long as you are blocking the conversion to DHT. Elevated testosterone levels will result in an increase in other hormones derived from Testosterone. if you block the production of DHT, you might see an increase in hormones on the estrogen side of the cascade.

no it doenst, higher testosterone is perfectly normal on propecia. there is nothing to be worried about.

add some magnesium and zinc and vitamin b6 and you will grow muscles.

but anyway, higher testosterone is perfectly normal and expected on propecia. its a sign that propecia works.

dr. cole, is it true that a lot of people also get male breast tissue or gyno because of propecia? some said it is because propecia raises estrogen level in our body, but i dont see how propecia has anything to do with estrogen.

only in 1 of 1000 cases as I remember

Finasteride doesn’t have anything to do with estrogen DIRECTLY. But indirectly is another story.

Block the type#2 DHT = there is excess testosterone remaining that had been waiting to be converted to that DHT. Well, the next thing your body does to deal with that excess test is to begin converting more of it (not all, but more than normal) over to estrogens.

Net effect? Take Fin and you generally get slightly higher Testosterone AND estrogen.

But think of the proportions: You’re still taking a portion of hormones that would naturally have all been 100% androgens of some kind (the stuff that would have become the type#2 DHT), and you’re splitting that stuff between having it in the form of some extra androgens (regular Test) and also making some extra estrogens out of it. So you’ve technically raised your testosterone levels and yet there’s a net-total increase in estrogenic effects compared to normal.

Agreed. I’ve observed this since I’ve been using it. It’s noticeably easier to make gains from resistance exercises and to lower body fat percentage. I suspect a slight increase in testosterone levels may be related to my observations here. It may actually be viewed by many as a positive side effect.

Secondary effects of this might have all kinds of implications towards reducing coronary disease risks and some types of cancer later on.

» » Coffee,
I tried fins for about 3 months and my breast stayed sore so I stopped. Really did not notice any sexual side effects although the soreness in my breast scared me and I prefer a hard penis than a head full of hair. You have experienced great results, have you noticed any sexual sides.

I have wondered about this for a while… the fact is within days of taking 1mg propecia daily I have had a huge increase in semen quantity after I masturbate… It is thick and seems healthy…

So I guess I can attribute it to increased testosterone from the propecia.

Awesome! Now if I can just grow back a few hundred hair follicles I will be back to the young chap I was a 2, 3 years ago.

My hair loss is on the crown… its not horrible but enough to where you can tell…

Just trying something different…

I think your boyfriend put the semen on your head…lol. That’s just an educated guess. But hey, if it grows your hair back…lol

If I was your girlfriend and I found out you ever did this a single time in your life, I would dump you just on principle.

Jigga, your boyfriend makes you swallow every day… now thts nasty

Lol…hey…YOU were the guy who turned this hair forum into how many times you pull it a day, and what you like to do with the remains.

Cal, I hope I haven’t hijacked this thread, and if I have please proceed to verbally hand my ass to me.
If not, could you or anyone else give a ballpark idea of how much arimidex to take? I just got my doc to prescribe it but it occurred to me that the amount necessary for our purposes may differ to the standard dosage. Any ideas/conjecture is appreciated. Of course, I will post results, whether pro or con, once I’ve had time to access the diff with the addition of arimidex.

My simplistic routine is:
proscar (5mg every 5 days for last 8 years or so)
Nizoral (3/week on and off for 8 years)
Arimidex (starting next week)

Thanks in advance.

That’s a good question.
Honestly I don’t know. No experience with Arimidex myself.

Here’s my official safe suggestion, and I’m sure you are already expecting to hear this answer from somebody pretty quickly: Get the bloodwork done to monitor things right. Hormones are scary things and getting your Estrogen too low is dangerous for your system too.

Off the record?

I’ve heard it said that 1/2 a pill (0.5mg) taken once a week is enough for moderate estrogen inhibition. Go up to 1mg a week, and apparently the estrogen inhibition is already high enough to be careful with.

But like I said, this subject isn’t something I know much about firsthand. Don’t take my word very seriously if some other informed person thinks they know better.
