Supplements besides Finasteride & Minoxidil

Hey all,

Just looking for some recommendations besides Finasteride & Minoxidil. I just recently decided to stop using Finasteride, I wasn’t really getting any side effects besides lack of morning erections, however I am just at a point that I do not wish to continue using Finasteride and most likely any other internal DHT blockers.

Are there guys on here that have regimens that consist of not using Finasteride or Minoxidil? I might be interested in using Minoixidil again (the Rogaine Foam) and I’m looking to see what other things I could use instead or add to it.

Thanks,

missmyhair

Check out my post called “I highly recommend these supplements”

Thanks Bucket.

Okay,

I’ve been lurking and reading around here the last week or so. I admit I do need to read more about some of the herbs and the ‘natural’ alternatives.
However at this point I feel I have to put some type of regiment together even if it is just temporary.

I have been off Proscar a little over a week now. So as of now I am taking nothing.

As far as “The Big 3” stand:

-I have decided to discontinue using Finasteride. It was obviously helping me keep what I had, and the only side effects I was really having was no morning wood. I’m glad I’m off it though I just really do not wish to continue with it.

-Rogaine/Minox is pretty much out of the question for me b/c of some side effects I had in the past with increased heart rate.

-That leaves me with Nizoral. Which I have used in the past off and on, never really though it did much, but then again maybe I wasn’t being consistent enough. I’m going to use the 1% shampoo every 2 days.

Other than that my only other plan for the time being is to get on a good Hair, Skin, and Nail Multi. I took Maxi Hair in the past by Coutry Life< Hangin’ recommeded this. It seems to work good.

So my current regimen by tomorrow will be:

Nizoral 1% Shampoo (every 2 days)
Hair, Skin, & Nail Multi (Maxi Hair by Country Life)

I will keep reading up this forum and others to see what else is out there. If anyone has any recommendations I will greatly appreciate it. If you just want to post your current regimen here as well that would be appreciated too. I know we all have our different reasons for taking the supplements we take, but it is nice to see what seems to be working for people.

Thanks all,

missmyhair

If you don’t want to use finasteride or minoxidil, have you considered using Dr. Proctor’s products like Proxiphen, Prox-N, and NANO Shampoo? They may well be the most effective products available, although they aren’t exactly cheap.

There is always Saw Palmetto, it might be a bit easier on your then Fin.

I would also take add a hair vitamin that has Biotin in it.

A regimen for your hair and body.

Hi missmyhair!

I know its hard to look for products that can bring back your hair, but to be on the safer side you can consult a specialist in this area so that you can discuss your concerns with a true professional. Even herbal products have risks involved so you better pay more caution. And besides our community has some highly recommended clinics for all of us.

I take the origenere multivitamin. It also contains saw palmetto, biotin, and q10 which is very important. The vitamin is incredible and has given me great results.

they idd are, and they idd do their job, but as he mentioned he doesn’t wanna use them anymore, suppose he got his reasons.
well, Nizoral will help you a little with keeping what you have as well as there are many other topicals, you just need to find the one that suits you

Give them a go!

However there are alternatives now namely; Epilobium , Piroctone Olamine shampoo - I will let you know when I find an alternative topical that appeals to me

There a few companies that will have some innovative topicals in the coming years.

If you want to prevent hair loss you should massage your scalp with rosemary oil a few times a week or daily. It works for prevention
Also, you should definately read the “Myhairway” book. Hope this information was helpful

Thanks! I had been using myhairway method (www.myhairway.com) and only recently started to see a huge difference (lots of fine hair growing out especially at the temple area) I highly recommend it to anyone who is suffering from hair loss.

You may as well give up the idea of keeping your hair long term if you don’t use a 5AR inhibitor or some kind of really powerful topical antiandrogen that successfully blocks DHT. And if you allow your MPB to progress by not using Proscar or Avodart, there’s no turning back. You won’t get it back. A little tiny bit at best. And that’s just for a while.

As for supplements I have read that Omega 3’s are a good idea, but I can’t remember why. But arginine should be a good idea since it boosts nitric oxide levels.

There arer plenty of solutions out there whithout risking your health and wellbeing use THICKER HAIR Formula By www.ukhairsolutions.com 100% herbal non-toxic and guaranteeed result at 3 month treatment it is a uk based company and you can try it for £10. it worked for me my father and few friends, they sell it in the pharmacy as homeopathy. and avoid finestrie and minoxidil that i watsed money on for 2 years no real results and if ther is any, once you stop your hair gets worst.

Side effects of finasteride include impotence (1.1% to 18.5%), abnormal ejaculation (7.2%), decreased ejaculatory volume (0.9% to 2.8%), abnormal sexual function (2.5%), gynecomastia (2.2%), erectile dysfunction (1.3%), ejaculation disorder (1.2%) and testicular pain. Resolution occurred in men who discontinued therapy with finasteride due to these side effects and in most of those who continued therapy.[12]

In December 2008, the Swedish Medical Products agency concluded a safety investigation of Propecia and subsequently advised that the use of Propecia may result in irreversible sexual dysfunction. The Agency’s updated safety information lists difficulty in obtaining an erection that persists indefinitely, even after the discontinuation of Propecia, as a possible side effect of the drug.[13]

Minoxidil (trade names Rogaine, Regaine, Avacor, Loniten (Orally), and Mintop among others now that Minoxidil is off patent, Common side effects of minoxidil include burning or irritation of the eye; itching; redness or irritation at the treated area; unwanted hair growth elsewhere on the body. Users should seek medical attention right away if they experience the severe side effects: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; dizziness; fainting; fast heartbeat; sudden, unexplained weight gain; swollen hands or feet.[7]

Alcohol present in topical preparations may dry the scalp, resulting in dandruff.[8] Side effects of oral minoxidil may include swelling of the face and extremities, rapid and irregular heartbeat, lightheadedness, cardiac lesions, and focal necrosis of the papillary muscle and subendocardial areas of the left ventricle.[9] There have been cases of allergic reactions to minoxidil or the non-active ingredient propylene glycol, which is found in some forms of topical Rogaine.

i have been using this product for 1 year and the results are unbelievable.

"Finishing my shower, I wondered why the water wasn’t draining away as quickly as usual. Looking down, I was shocked to see clumps of hair clogging the plug hole…then I noticed my brush was matted with hair and on closer inspection, realised I had several bald patches. Heart thumping, I tried to stay calm. Over the past few months I’d been feeling run-down, with a constant sniffle. Ever since I started dieting in fact. I wondered if it had anything to do with it…I felt awful, but I loved being thin. But then my hair started falling out and I was terrified I’d end up bald. During an internet search I found a natural hair loss oil called THICKER HAIR Formula by www.ukhairsolutions.com that had good reviews. The website also explained how diet is linked to hair loss, because if you’re not eating well you won’t be betting the nutrients essential for healthy hair. That was 8 months ago, and gradually my hair has got thicker. I had to try out different hairstyles to hide the bald patches, but I don’t have that problem now. I had only been taking it for about 2 months when I noticed that the excessive shedding had slowed down. By the fourth month, I could see fine baby hairs growing back and the overall condition was much better. I’ve been taking it for over 8 months now and am delighted with the results. My hair looks better than ever, it has completely grown back. I’ve been recommending uk hair solutions to friends and family!”
