In this video, Dr Umar uses Body hair to head transplantation also called Body Hair Transplantation (BHT) in combination with Beard and head hair to restore a severely bald individual.
The patient presented in this video had severe hair loss. Using a combination of head, body and beard hair, Dr Umar was able to transfer about 20,000 grafts to his entire balding area in the course of 2 surgeries spaced 1 year apart.
Hair transplants using traditional head donor sources alone (Strip surgery or head hair only FUE) would have compelled the patient to address only the top and front (often with a high receding hairline) while the top back (Crown) is left largely unaddressed. With traditional head donor sources alone, because of the limited number of grafts (5000-7000) and the vast area of baldness, the patient would have been compelled to settle for a bald pate (crown) and an aged higher hairline.
The result at 1 year after the last surgery is a fuller look with still a pristine back and sides of the head which is not overharvested and devoid of a strip scar that could have limited his hair styling options significantly. With this procedure, the patient is able to sport a crew cut without the fear of exposing a linear scar, yet he still is left with an ample supply of head and body donor hair for any touch ups or to address future progression of baldness.

…and Dr Umar’s rates are among the lowest in this Business.
Consider, for example, Dr Gho “claims” (<—lol) his technique can recover full density @ $10/graft.

Question #1:
WHERE did Dr. Gho claim “his technique can recover full density”?
» Question #1:
» WHERE did Dr. Gho claim “his technique can recover full density”?
This entire forum’s been inundated with claims Gho’s procedure is able to create an unlimited donor supply. Unlimited donor supply = Potential for Full density.
» Question #2:
» $10/graft ???
»
» You’re totally wrong! Here you’ll find Dr. Gho’s price list(s):
»
» In fact, 1 graft costs ~ 5 Euros (~ $6/graft)
My apologies; you’re correct. It’s not $10, but more like $6.70usd. Therefore, Gho’s price for this particular job would come out to $134,000. Moreso, if Gho’s technique could yield 50,000 grafts (a number close to someone’s original density I’m guessing) than the cost would be $335,000usd.
Dr Umar does seem to produce very honest photos, but I think this once again demonstrates the poor results BHT gives, one wonders what this guy would look like without the 5,500 head hair and just the 15,000 BHT.
» Can he grow his hair long? any pics what it looks like with long hair?
The body hair will only grow as long as it would have grown in its original location, from what I’ve read in most places. That means that Dr Umar is correct to say the patient CAN cut his hair short, but it might also be true that the patient MUST cut his hair short. More knowledgeable posters please correct me if I’m wrong on this, but I think it is a question of what percentage of the hair comes from a source other than his scalp.
The length issue is one I struggle with. Although I would love to be ABLE to cut my hair short like the guy in this video and have the coverage he has, I’m not sure I’m willing to forever abandon the option of growing my hair longer. At the moment, I am leaning toward the idea of using body hair to replace the head hair I have moved, and also to have body hair placed stategically on top as filler amongst hair that I can grow longer. It’s possible that the guy in this video did that, and so he can grow his hair longer. He did, after all, move 5000 scalp hairs to the top of his head. Like I said, it depends on percentages, I think. If he has more hair that can’t grow long (body hair) than he does hair that can (scalp hair), his length options are restricted. There are guys here on the forum that have had large body hair transplants that can speak more knowledgeably on the subject, though. And, of course, the Umar Team can speak definitively to the question.
One thing I have to say about this patient (and Heliboy, another Umar patient) is that the Norwood 0 hairline is enviable!!

I think there is a lot of conflicting information around here, how do you explain this photo from the God father of body hair transplant, this is Woods’ patient, it was posted by Hairsite with a ruler showing that body hair can grow long even when transplanted to the scalp.
This patient looks good from a frontal shot but when the camera shows the top its quality goes down. I would think there is a good improvement but not “Baldness cured”. That would mean a full, full head of hair. This persons hair is still sparse. But a good overall improvement indeed. Not worth 100 grand though. I would want elvis hair for that dollar amount. HAHA!
» hs, this guy is lucky he didnt go to dr bauman who charges $20 per graft
» for neograft fue, $20 x 20000 grafts = $400,000
That comment makes my blood boil. The Neograft, Punch Hair Matic, and Restoration Robotics devices were designed with the full intent of reducing graft costs drastically. Dr Bauman should be utterly ashamed of himself.
Skywalker, that is a good insight from you. This patient has global coverage that is not possible with head hair only surgery and certainly not with 5500 head and nape hair. His coverage would look denser if he allows his hair to grow out by a few more centimeters. But this is the hair length he elects to have because he can do so now. He would not try that with a 5500 nap and had hair to a NW6 area. Here is an example of a body hair only surgery with only 10,000 grafts involving a NW6 area coverage by Dr Umar. This patient grew is hair a tad longer:

» his hair to grow out by a few more centimeters. But this is the hair length

Excellent clinic and results but this is either and unnecessarily dishonest or negligent answer. The length of body hair is obviously limited by its length in its native area. It will not necessarily be the length “elected” by the patient.
