Okay, only two days since my last post. Two things have changed. Firstly, I actually received my order of Nizoral Cream. I thought all my scalp itch was gone, but when I apply the cream it really takes away a slight itch that I still apparently had. Will this help? Something tells me it’s a good sign.

I have seen some thin, light-colored hairs growing in my temple region. Signs of some Dutasteride-spurred regrowth? It does certainly seem that these hairs would not be there without some element of my regime making it so. I am resisting spending too much time scanning my scalp for new growth. I’ll be convinced if things are significantly different 6 months or after.

not sure about combining the niz cream with dut, you are taking a lot of stuff that might conflict
i had a pretty noticeable shed starting about 6 wks with the niz cream, so be prepared for that

Thanks, Hangin’. I appreciate your message. I get the notion that maybe some of these things are not good to mix, perhaps for reasons unknown. But wouldn’t that be the same for Nizoral cream and SP/Beta as well – and that seems to work for you?

Dutasteride: I get it in generic form from Dr. Reddy’s (I think it’s called). 0.5mg. It’s a pill. I could see the viewpoint that two topicals mixing might have cross-purpose effects. But two anti-DHT medications one topical the other a pill, would that?

I was taking SP intermittently. My hair loss has slowed for a few years while I have taken various vitamins and things like SP (very little hair in the sink), but with little regrowth was still proceeding steadily. I decided to put together this regime to try to regrow hair in the way you discussed it in your post.

The side effects are there for me, but I’ll deal with them for awhile and then cycle of Dut for awhile. Also, they haven’t killed my libido just slowed it down a bit.

most guys including myself do not experience decrease libido on the naturals, it happens but its rare, its not like propecia

propecia decreases SERUM dht levels, blood levels of dht , not a good thing, you need dht in your blood
SP has been shown to NOt Decrease blood levels of dht…

are you taking super hair vitamin or any other vitamin type mineral combo
u might list your regimen in your signature
makes it easier to give advice instead of guys having to always ask for it

thats what i do

What I’ve found from research is that serum DHT is known to be necessary for things such as 1) proper development of the penis and gonads during and before puberty (not a problem for me 2) a deep voice (not a problem) 3) optimal libido (I am willing to take the hit to my libido for awhile, and actually this is probably a good thing for me since my appetite for women gets me into trouble sometimes – i.e. oversexed with women I am not long-term attracted to, etc. Some people suggest DHT is potentially important for things like our heart muscle and perhaps for our brain. While these things are all important, some are unproven and others I think will not be of concern for short periods of time. In other words, I am willing to take the risk.

For these reasons, I decided to take 0.5 mg of Dutasteride instead of 2.5mg (not to mention cost) – because that way there will still be some serum DHT.

I am planning to cycle on and off this stuff.

0.5mg Dutasteride daily
Rogaine Foam 2x daily
Nizoral 2% cream
1g Lysine daily
2,000 mcg Biotin daily
4 g daily MSM
10g of L-Arginine (this is said to stimulate the release of growth hormone, especially in those who exercise)
Maxi Hair
Multivitamin

I started this regime on March 4th, but started with Dut, and hadn’t received shipment until about a week ago on the Niz cream. I changed out the Rogaine foam for Minoxidil 5% (from Costco) because people said the foam seemed to cause their hair to fall out. So I guess could say this should count as my first week on this full regime, but is my fourth week on Dut.

0.5mg Dutasteride daily
Rogaine Foam 2x daily
Nizoral 2% cream usually once daily, sometimes twice
Nizoral 1% shampoo twice a week
1g Lysine daily
1 tablet of Maxi Hair
3 g daily MSM
10g of L-Arginine (this is said to stimulate the release of growth hormone, especially in those who exercise)
Multivitamin
6-8 grams of Fish Oil

RESULTS/EFFECTS: PLUS: Hair starting to come in on the right temple, probably the left one too (I haven’t looked that closely). I don’t see any particular effect on my hairline further up, but I am not bothering to look that closely until I am a few months into this thing. This is lighter color peach fuzz type hair, I guess that’s called vellus. It’s very short, but growing longer and in a minor way thicker. PLUS: scalp itch almost non-existent, I had forgotten how it was to have a non-itchy scalp. This is actually huge in terms of better comfort, and I am convinced that scalp itch and hair loss correlate significantly. I had the greatest scalp itch in the same place on my right side where I had the greatest recession – i.e. at the top of the temple going back up to the vertex – sort of a David Letterman-type look. MINUS: I’m a little dead downstairs and this wouldn’t be acceptable were I not in a personal situation where it’s probably for the better. I can function, but I have less ejaculate. MINUS: Strange feeling in the head sometimes. It goes away when I exercise more or less. I had some headaches at first, but those are gone. NEUTRAL: Is enhanced testosterone making me somewhat more aggressive?

DUT makes me dopey. I have slight headaches. It’s definitely having neurological effects. I don’t mind the sexual side effects which have been subsiding. But I am wondering if I erred in going straight to the hard stuff – DUT – rather than trying higher doses of Saw Palmetto or trying Finasteride. This just can’t be good for a person to feel the head-in-the-vise feelings I am feeling. What I’ll really miss, if I do go off of it, is the lack of scalp itch. I haven’t been exercising, but when I do exercise the effects on my head seem to be less. I am going to make sure I exercise everyday for a week and if I don’t feel better, it’s going to be Finasteride or more Saw P. instead.

» » RESULTS/EFFECTS: PLUS: Hair starting to come in on the right temple,
» » probably the left one too (I haven’t looked that closely). I don’t see
» any
» » particular effect on my hairline further up, but I am not bothering to
» look
» » that closely until I am a few months into this thing. This is lighter

» » non-existent, I had forgotten how it was to have a non-itchy scalp.
» This

» MINUS:

» DUT makes me dopey. I have slight headaches. It’s definitely having
» neurological effects. I don’t mind the sexual side effects which have

» hard stuff – DUT – rather than trying higher doses of Saw Palmetto or
» trying Finasteride. This just can’t be good for a person to feel the
» head-in-the-vise feelings I am feeling. What I’ll really miss, if I do go

i would go off the DUT for sure, lots of complaints of side effects

as far as Prop i would wait, and try more of a mixture of naturals instead of increasing dosage of SP
SP is a very weak 5 ar inhibitor

I would say, mix up the SP , pygeum nettles beta sis , etc

beta sis is 3000 times more powerful than SP
google beta sitosterol 3000 and watch what comes up

hangin’s right. drop this DUT crap before it has impaired your libido for a long time if not more. try nettle root or beta sis more generally. had I known what the effects of high dosage fin were, I would have tried the naturals first. But now i’m trapped. I have more hair than when I was on the standard 1mg fin propecia but last time I tried to drop my current fin dosage from 2.5 to 2mg a day, I went to shedding 400 hairs a day. So I had to up it back.

0.5mg Dutasteride daily
Rogaine Liquid 2x daily (with L-Carnitine added)
Nizoral 2% cream usually once daily
Nizoral 1% shampoo twice a week
1g Lysine daily
1 tablet of Maxi Hair
3 g daily MSM
10g of L-Arginine (this is said to stimulate the release of growth hormone, especially in those who exercise)
Multivitamin
6-8 grams of Fish Oil

The headaches I was having have subsided. I think I’ll stay on DUT and take days off now and then. If I’m not mistaken, it helps to take it with food.

  • Hair loss: No appreciable loss or shedding. Haven’t had any major shedding for years since making fish oil and vitamins a regular thing.
  • Hair growth: Minor, minor signs of growth around temples. Frankly, haven’t been tracking my “bald spot” area.
  • Libido: Diminished, but coming back
  • Other side effects: Drastic slowing of beard growth as others have reported.
  • Good side effect: All my scalp itch is gone. My scalp feels very good. I’d like to see a good explanation of what causes the scalp to itch during the hair loss process. The itch feels just like the itch that occurs during when one has a scab from a healing wound. It seems very possible to me that the itching process is related to the closing off of blood flow to the scalp, that the process is one of inflammation and scarring and loss of blood flow altogether. This is all pure speculation. But on this regime, my scalp feels as if it is nourished and refreshed.

I am waiting for the reputed 6-8 week shed from DUT to see if anything happens.

My headaches are gone. I think the solution is to eat when I take the Dutasteride. My slightly changed regime has been listed on recent postings.

I was going to quit owing to headaches, but that’s not an issue now as I said.

I’ve gotten growth of increasingly long blonde hairs in the temple areas. They are almost completely unnoticeable; however, I think these need time. I have no idea if I’m getting growth anywhere else on my head – I have enough hair that it’s hard to tell.

I would wonder whether these “baby steps” would be worth the headaches I had or the lessening of libido. But my scalp feels so damn good. So far as I can tell between the Dut and the Nizoral – at least that’s what I imagine is doing it – my scalp itch is gone entirely and my head feels really good.

So for right now, I’ll wait on what I have. Can’t say things are happening dramatically, but things are happening.

Right, so far so good. I suggest you don’t post again until something new happens. Because you might think that your posts are unread if weeks pass by without anything dramatic occurring. Reports about your libido will be intersting around the 3 month mark. That 's when my problems begun when I took high dose finasteride. As to the itching, dut is known to suppress both excess facial and scalp sebum… to the point skin becomes dry. Watch it.
