Dr. Jones will be treating patients with Platelet Rich Plasma

Dr. Jones met with Dr. Greco in Florida last week to discuss the potential of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) as a hair loss treatment.

Dr. Jones announced today that he will start treating patients with PRP some time this month, on a small scale trial basis. The process is fairly straight forward and non-invasive. It will be performed in his Toronto/Oakville clinic in Canada.

Please note that the use of Platelet Rich Plasma for hair regeneration is a new concept. Dr. Greco seems to have some success in this area. However, there is no guarantee what kind of results (or side effects) one may expect from the treatment.

The process involves using the patient’s own blood as growth factors. It is a not a surgery. Dr Jones will be using the exact same technique and protocol used by Dr. Greco. At this point, he has ordered enough supplies to treat 15 patients on a trial basis. There will be a small fee for the procedure, but it is strictly to cover the cost of the supplies and overhead required to administer the treatment. Pictures and results will be posted on Dr. Jones’ website as well as on Hairsite so that everyone will be able to follow the progress. Dr. Jones has no financial interest in the trial.

Dr. Jones has agreed to do a small Q&A with everyone in the forum. Please post your questions in this thread. Be respectful. No bickering.

Anyone who is interested in this treatment at Dr. Jones’ clinic, please email hairsite@aol.com or visit Dr. Jones’ website.

Regards,

Awesome, has Dr. Jones met with any Greco patients? what about before and after pictures other than those on his website?

That’s really cool… Many HT doctors could use this technique in conjunction with HT’s if it indeed works on reactivating miniaturized hair follicles.

I suppose this is a good sign, he must have seen something promising about the blood plasma treatment otherwise he wouldn’t bother to give this a try.

Can this type of treatment increase the density of someone’s hair .
I’m kinda like this guy . after he had his treatment ,

  1. Must someone have to be bald ?
  2. can this treatment be done to someone to thicken up his hair ?
  3. Will you be posting after pictures after a few trials ?

Am I allowed to continue to take Propecia and use minox after the treatment?

I would normally distrust this type of announcements, but given the policy of transparency proved by Dr. Jones, I am very positive about it.
If it works, great. If it doesn’t work, at least we will know.

I don’t know anything about this technology yet. I don’t know if the thory sucks. But I am rather interested in results, not in theories.

sounds interesting, although it looks like it’s not gonna be any silver bullet. However, its available and “not” expensive. I’ll wait for the results…

in the meantime, here’s a paper which explains what is PRP:

Q for Dr. Jones: Does this mean he’s done testing out Acell? I remember he had said that he may try different protocol if the first test didn’t work.

After spending some time with Dr. Greco last week, I was impressed enough with the results I saw to order the equipment to offer PRP to 15 patients on a trial basis. I will among the first patients treated at my clinic and will be following each patient with photos on my site and forwarding them to hairsite.
The treatment seems to work best in patients with diffuse thinning rather than complete hair loss. It can be used in conjunction with propecia and minoxidil. Since we are using the patients own plasma, there is absolutely no risk to the patient.
Please post further questions on this thread, I will check it daily and respond as best I can.
If any patients would be interested in participating in the initial group of 15 patients at a discounted rate, please contact me directly through my site.

Dr. Jones do you know how many patients Dr. Greco has treated so far, what is his success rate?

Anyone who did not respond to this treatment at all?

I want to know how deep Dr. Jones has to cut into the scalp in order to apply the platelet rich plasma, does he need to wound a small area or a large area of my scalp, can I return to work the next day without anyone knowing that I had received this treatment?

With this treatment there is no incision. The scalp is rolled with a “skin roller” and the PRP is injected under and into the skin. I will take a video of the procedure being performed. The patient can return to work the following day with no sign of the treatment, his or her scalp would look entirely normal.
I saw 3 of Dr. Greco’s patients in Florida, all of whom had a lot of new hair growth. There was no change in there treatment besides PRP.

At this point, I am done with Acell. I didn’t see any results from the first patient and the company has not provided me with an alternative protocol so until I feel that I have a method that I think is viable I will not do another Acell procedure,

If it works then we don’t need Acell, remember you have to cut deep into the skin in order to apply the Acell matrix, Greco’s treatment doesn’t seem to require that trauma to the skin in order to grow hair.

I wonder what are the growth factors? Here the article talks about adding growth factors to the plasma or something like that. Is Dr. Jones using only our blood or our blood+growth factors?

How much blood needs to be drawn and how long does the whole process take?

Thanks for having an open mind and setting up the trial. Is there any chance that outside forces would be able to shut the study down, if and when you start to show results?

It seems that there are already grumblings by a few.

How soon can the hair be washed, and a concealer applied?

it really always amuses me how ppl on this board think that researches should be spending half their time publishing photos and pre-mature results in order not to “waste our time”…

its not like that if your time hadnt been wasted you would have come up with the result by now… dude face it… you’re not even doing any scientific research (eventho many people seem to think that just because they follow some boards and read an article now and then that they are scientific experts)…
