Can\'t our Numbers be of Any Help

With all these hairloss forums and hairloss sites there has got to be tens of thousands of people reading them and following them religiously aside from the forum members. There has got to be something all of us combined can do as we already know that the will is there, but it’s a matter of finding way. I’m no scientific goru but some of you’s here and on other forums have a vast amount of knowledge and I’m sure something can be thought of. Most of us are ready to contribute both finacially and timewise. If we keep sitting here waiting for the money makers to come up with something we’re going to die bald.

oh my god, if we dont get our hair back the way it was in high school we will all surely die early

Hangin, WE GET YOUR POINT!

But you are in your 40s and have maintained most of your hair, the guys desperate about hair are in their early 20s and losing hair aggressively - give them a break.

I proposed in another thread, that we should at least write to the President(Obama) about this situation. Hairloss has been associated with heart disease & diabetes, I personally know many bald men in their 40s/50s who have one of these diseases. So obviously this needs to be looked into, BUT it can’t be done without understanding the root cause of hairloss (i.e. genes & pathways involved) - none of which is being done at the moment because no one really gives a damn.

The right way to do this would be to carefully write an online petition(stating all the facts & research studies) and then email the president through whitehouse.gov. I bet we can get tens of thousands people to sign the petition and at the end of the day, we are the taxypayers! I don’t see why the president wouldn’t at least respond to our request.

i was losing my hair just as fast at just as young an age
i found a solution and that was before minox, propecia existed

if you guys cannot even stop your fallout with everything on the market today
you need to work a bit harder or be a little more open minded

if you are not willing to do that, and you want some magic pill to solve all your problems…as you seem to think HM will do

then dream on

you will be waiting a long long time, I do not believe HM will be here in the next 20 yrs, in a form that is either usable, cosmetically acceptable, or affordable

That’s fine. We can even, as cal suggested on another thread, try to get our hands on Acell and test it ourselves. Whatever it is we should act upon it and do it rather than talk about it; we have numbers on our side. Whatever it is it will have some effect to some degree, and will be better than doing “nothing”.

Goata, what are the steps to initiate such a petition?
And anyone who is reading this and is not a member of the forum…now would be a perfect time to join and input your 2 cents in here.

I’m down for it. I would also email OPRAH lol… Seriously though… the woman is more influential than the president to some extent.

Usually people write petitions online at petitiononline.com (btw for some reason the site is down right now). Then we can post it on all hairloss forums and request admins to make it a sticky so people can just read the petition and sign it online at petitiononilne.com.

Like I said earlier, We’d have to write the petition very carefully. We can NOT afford to look like a bunch of desperate bald men. The petition should definitely cite published studies regarding corelation of mpb with diabetes & cardiac diseases. For a fact, we can mention our Current & Ex Vice presidents, both of whom are bald and have cardiac issues.

We should also do a poll that asks men & women (visitors on hairloss websites) about how hairloss has affected their lives (1-10 rating on various issues i.e. social, relationships, education, job, depression etc etc) and also include these statistics in the petition. The poll would convey our pain affectively.

We can also make a point about how finding the cure for hairloss would be benefical for US ecnomically, as it will not only simulate domestic economy But will also bring in billions in foreign revenue.

The primary objective of our petition should be to the get the government to fund research related to hairloss. What I’ve seen generally is that the professors get about $100K in funding for a typical research program, so if we can get the government to allocate $10M for hairloss, this should be enough to fund 100 researchers and at least get the process started.

On a side note, People should not expect this petition to bring a hairloss cure in the “next 5 years”, But as a way of understanding this disease better and hopefully finding a better cure.

celebs and others in power are too busy to bother themselves with guys losing their hair

its not an important issue,
cancer is an important issue
guys going bald is not…get that through your head

I’m sure Oprah and Tyra understand the importance of hair

Actually, I think the idea of attempting to interest Oprah Winfrey is quite a good one. Her show essentially does have as much ability to influence/expose and issue as the president saying something about it.

The increasingly important effect of looks on mens lives, and the fact that young MPB is still virtually untreatable . . . I think this is exactly the kind of stuff that Oprah does shows about every day.

But I’m sure her people get flooded with about a million ideas a week. I don’t have any ideas about raising the profile of this one.

You’d have to convince a physician/doctor (that you know very well) to write you a prescription of some sort. Btw, ACELL dressing IS available But it’s not what we want, we need the ACELL powder.

I do hope so as well. Btw, petitiononline.com is working now

It’s a very slippery slope, these media people. If they agree then there is no doubt that people will have a positive opinion of us. However, if they are not convinced then they would have the power of media to mock bunch of desperate bald men and tell us to grow up and take it like a man - like it’s been done from ages.

The general response that I see with hairloss is that unless people start losing their own hair, they don’t really give a damn and think of it as a very minor issue. I have a friend who used to tell me to not worry about hairloss at all and hair isn’t really that important (btw I am NW6). That guy is very good socially - no problem talking to girls etc and wasn’t losing his hair back then. Recently, he has been losing quite a lot of hair and is constantly asking me and other people for cures/tips/suggestions etc - Now he gets it! If the average person, with a head full of hair, watching Oprah etc is gonna respond to us like him, then we don’t have any chance of getting funding.

If at early stage we get the media against us then is no way the president would agree to our request - that would be policitcal suicide for him. So we should see what president says first, and then get in touch with the media. Worst case scenario, president says “no can do”. Then we got nothing to lose and we can approach media at that point.

You are wasting your time writing to a democratic president, it may help if it was a republican president, these days Obama has his plate full, he couldn’t care less about whiny baldies like us.

I would have imagined it’s the other way around. Bush was a republican…need I say more?

this is one of the most insightful posts I have read on this forum in 10 yrs

people have no sympathy or understanding until it happens to them, then all the sudden they care and panic

brilliant and right on the mark

A president isn’t gonna respond either way.

Oprah has actually dealt with baldness before. But whatever the treatment, it could use more.

I think you guys are worrying too much about being mocked. Maybe on a comedy show but not on someplace like Oprah for example.

If anyone does make light of it in real life, just do this: Tell them you will pay them to start shaving their head tomorrow in a NW#7 pattern every day (and maybe some chemical hair remover to hide the stubble).

Tell them you’ll pay them monthly to keep doing it, and the only condition is that they can’t explain the money and have to pretend they’ve really lost it.

Ask them what dollar amount will it take? $100 month? $300 month? $500 month? When they keep turning you down, remind then that you’ll pay them INDEFINITELY for this and it could be the payment on a new car pretty easily . . .

It doesn’t matter, and shouldn’t matter, what party the president is from. Regardless of what is happening in the world (possible revolution in Iran, nuclear N. Korea, worst economy since the 30’s, 2 wars, global warming, 2012 reelection, etc.) no US president is going to give a rat’s ass about balding men, with the possible exception of Gerald Ford.
