Ive just started using Bimatoprost 0.03% as Lumigan eye drops, on one of my very thinning temples to see if it has any noticable effects, if it does then i will use it on other areas. I have a very thin crown and receeding temples and diffuse thinning on all top of head. I will keep this thread updated with any progress. So far im three days in and im using a few drops morning and night each day. No itching or other side-effects noticed yet. Im also on no other hair loss drugs apart from some nizoral shampoo now and again and normal shampoo.

It’s not a high enough dose.

Definately not an optimal dose but ill be interested to see if i get any noticable difference. Even a slight improvement will be welcomed.
Is this medication undergoing clinical trials as a head hair loss treatment?
Have there been any updates on the results of those trials?

Yes it’s in phase 2 and hopefully results will be published at the end of October 2012. This is why im trying the 0.03% as there should be at least a small effect on hair at this strength.
Great¡
Please keep detailed before & after pictures as the testimonial approach alone is worthless.
My view is that even if it works, the negative effects of DHT of overrides the result. It’s like fighting a nuclear explosion with a bucket of water. But since you are on nothing else, this should be an interesting experiment.
Please keep us updated.

I have years of experience with bimatoprost on eyelashes and eyebrows. Naturally, plenty of my clients wifes have thought about this treatment.
When using it on the scalp, I have noticed good results for male hair loss and female hair thinning. It is not a revolutionary treatment but a useful addition to minoxidil and ketoconazole (+ finasteride for men)

If you talk to your hair loss doctor then they should know about it.
It is a very recent treatment, so the evidence base has only been growing in the past year or so.
It can be relatively expensive. Similar price to Propecia.
Only side effect I have seen has been a little bit of irritation at the site of application for the first few times. This only happened in 2 of my patients so far out of ~80.

Last I checked, the MedicalWellnesscenter makes prescriptions available online here: Latisse Lumigan Presription (bimatoprost) Online for Male Pattern Hair Loss - Passed FDA Phase I Trials

Hello Dr. tom and co.,
Dr. Tom are you able to provide any pictures? Do any of your clients get increased sebum as a result? Many people claim bimat increases sebum, including myself. Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!

I have a website on my profile for anyone in Europe.
I will hopefully be posting a few pictures soon if two clients allow me to.
Be careful with “before and after” pictures though, they are easy to manipulate. Always focus on independent clinical research.

Greatly appreciated Dr. Tom.
You probably already seen this youtube clip on Bimatoprost :
almost three weeks using bimatoprost on my one temple (2 drops morning and night). Im a bit reluctant to say but i think there may be a very slight increase in some vellus hair, it just looks a tiny bit more dense but its still too early to say but as of this far nothing of cosmetic significance. If by three months there isnt a noticable good result i probably wont continue but if there is i will continue to use it indefinately.

If you have access to journals, then this one has great pictures of a woman who was using bimatoprost as an eyedrop for and allowed it to run down her cheek like a tear. She ends up with a line of hair along the tear path.

I would recommend using it every day for 16 - 20 weeks and if you are happy with the results then, you can drop down to every second day or three times a week.
thanks for the advice, yes i will probably use it for four months and then see how it goes. so far one 3ml bottle looks like it will last me 3 weeks using it 2 drops in the morning and 2 drops at night on one temple. i will reduce the frequency to once a day or every other if i get results and use it on other areas. that article you linked about growth on the face is promising.
Dr Tom, is it possible you could post that picture of the women with hair growth on the cheek from the article you linked so i can see it. i dont have access to the journal unfortunately.
ive found a free version you can view the picture at
quite good growth for 8 weeks indeed.
