The software problems on this site

For the poster “hairlodo” and others like me who have had their posts disappear into thin air because they waited too long to click the Submit button, I can verify that the situation has now been improved considerably, although still not fixed permanently: you now have a longer period of time (1 hour) before the “posting-timer” times-out on you. I tested it myself recently, using a timer for accuracy: waiting for NEARLY a full hour (about 58 minutes), I didn’t lose my post. Waiting for just OVER an hour (about 62 minutes), I lost my post.

So everybody needs to remember that if you write a long, complicated post and you’re taking a lot of time with it, you need to “reset” the timer by at least doing a “Preview” on what you’ve written so far AT LEAST once an hour. Just a word to the wise…

A word to the wise? Or the wasting timers?

» A word to the wise? Or the wasting timers?

Was that a weak attempt at a humorous play on words, or did you simply mean to say “time wasters”? (I have to ask that of anybody who would say “I could care less”!  )

Weak attempt? I think it was pretty good, if I didn’t say so myself

Bryan…an hour to post? :lol2:

you can copy your whole post in order to paste it later if the post is lost when you hit submit…

I had just attempted to reply to Jacob in this same thread. I had his original quoted text right here in front of me in my own “posting window” which PROVES (apparently) that I was already logged-in; otherwise, it would have taken me straight to the log-in window and told me that I needed to log-in first before I could post. But I was already in the posting window.

I took only a couple of minutes or so to reply, and when I hit the “OK-Submit” button, it dumped me into the page showing the list of individual forums. I was suddenly LOGGED-OUT, and everything I had written was gone forever.

There are still other flaky problems with this software BESIDES just the “posting-timer”.

» Bryan…an hour to post? :lol2:

Yes. What if you’re taking only a few minutes, but suddenly your phone rings and it’s a buddy calling to tell you an amazing story? What if you get so engrossed that you don’t realize that it’s been over an hour, and so when you hang up later and finish your post, it disappears in a puff of logic when you click the Submit button? There should be NO TIME LIMIT AT ALL for your posts.

.

» you can copy your whole post in order to paste it later if the post
» is lost when you hit submit…

Yes, but we shouldn’t have to depend on such a work-around.

.

I don’t want to guarantee that the time allowed is 1 hour just yet. I am still running some tests to make sure that it is working properly. Also, I will ask the programmer to set the timer to UNLIMITED, but that maybe a day or two before that happens. I will let everyone know in due course.

For the time being, if you are writing a long post, to be safe, please do a SELECT ALL, and COPY your draft before you hit the submit button.

It was my doing :stuck_out_tongue: I was trying to set the timer to UNLIMITED, I don’t know what number to put so I put ZERO minutes hoping that the script will regard this as unlimited. Obviously, that’s not the case, sorry!

Why can we no longer get to the forums by the buttons at the top of the page (Forum, News, Hair Transplant…)? When I hit the “Topical” button, it now takes me to a page that now does not have a link directly to the “Topical” Forum.

Those amazing stories just pop up at the most inconvenient times, don’t they :lookaround:

BTW…I could swear you used to yell at ppl for not saving what they were going to post before trying to post…

Your frivolous reply suggests that you see the good point I’ve made!

When posting on this site, you have to be VERRRRY careful about how long you’re taking, with your eye constantly on the clock. God help you if you put a lot of effort into writing a post, and then the telephone rings and you get into a converstation with someone; or if there’s a knock on the door and your neighbor wants to talk to you for a while; or if a family member comes to you and wants to engage you for a while. You start to get nervous about whether or not your post is still going to be there when you get back!

» were going to post before trying to post…

Sorry, buddy, but your memory is faulty. I’ve never done any such thing. I think all those liposomes and nanosomes are going straight to your brain.

Ha…just the opposite.

Converstation? I’ve never been to one :lol3:
Hmmmm…spelling…something else you’ve yelled at ppl for.

Ohhhhhhhh don’t question my memory, buddy

I occasionally make jokes about their misspellings. And I’m not perfect, either…sometimes even I make spelling mistakes, too, although those only occur at about the same frequency as a full solar eclipse!

I am questioning your memory.

But don’t…because it’s a baaaaaaaaaaaaad thing to do

Not a problem. Will add that back once I am done with the timer issue.

Okay. Thanks.

David, what’s the current status of the problem? It’s been a couple of weeks now…is the problem fixed by now? Is the timer now set to unlimited?

Not at this point. I am working on the file or picture upload problem right now. As soon as that problem is corrected, I will work on fixing the timer. Please bear with me for now.

Thanks.
