I wanted some advice on the following, if someone is willing to share their knowledge:
Rogaine Foam. Do I apply it to just the areas they suggest (the crown and vertex) or to anywhere I am seeing loss including the hairline? Also, I remember reading somewhere it’s good to apply it to a wet scalp to increase absorption – yes or no? What’s your opinion/experience?
Nizoral 2% cream. I’ve heard that I should apply this after letting the Rogain absorb for awhile. True? How often should I apply it – once or twice a day?

Yeah, applying topicals to wet scalp increases absorbsion by up to 20X.
So it’s really not necessary to use 15% or whatever high concentration. (obviously not dripping wet hair)
creams should be applied after all the other water based alcohol based crap. in my experience. cause then if you put on too much cream it’s gonna block off the other crap. and also wait so you don’t end up diluting everything at the surface of your scalp before absorption.

What are you talking about? What scientific study suggests this?
The fact that hydration (moist skin) increases absorption is Hairloss 101. I thought everybody knew this. I don’t believe it is 20X though. Maybe Bryan could weigh in on this?

Sometimes it’s easy to tell when someone has never read alt.baldspot!
For YEARS Dr. Proctor has been telling everybody how thorough skin hydration can enhance the percutaneous penetration of drugs by as much as 2- to 20-fold (depending on the specific drug). He says dermatologists are well-familiar with that trick, and use it often.
I was suspicious about one specific aspect of that, though, and got him to agree that the technique is probably much more effective for water-soluble drugs than fat-soluble ones.

And here’s a brief excerpt from the article “Penetration of Drugs through the Skin”, Richard B. Stoughton, Dermatologica 152 (Suppl. 1): 27-36 (1976).
“…These tables will be discussed in more detail later, but note table III which gives information about the influence of humidity on penetration of glucocorticoids through human skin. Maximum hydration results in a 10-fold increase in penetration. This correlates with the huge increase in biologic activity of topical steroids seen with occlusive wrap in vasoconstriction assays and clinical observations.”

Okay, thanks for the information on absorption and Nizoral.
NOW: Any feedback on the question of whether or not to bother putting Rogaine foam on the hairline? Or should I just stick to the vertex and crown?
Minoxidil should work equally well regardless of the location to which it is applied - if that is your question. In my experience, the foam seemed to do more harm than good. I use generic 5% minoxidil (Kirkland) and feel that it works much better than the foam.

Yech! How funny. There I was in Costco choosing between the foam and the Kirkland generic – and I made the wrong choice! And it was more expensive. Oh well. Thanks for the reply.
