Today we have a case study and review of our patient Sumit Thomre. In this article, we’ll take you through his entire hair transplant journey, from hair loss struggles to successful transformation.
Patient Profile:
Sumit Thomre is a young male from India who came to us after dealing with progressive hair loss for the last 3 to 4 years. Professionally active and socially confident, Sumit began noticing significant hair thinning and eventually complete baldness in the front region of his scalp. This hair loss was starting to affect his self-esteem and daily interactions.
Duration of Hair Loss:
Sumit had been experiencing a gradual hair loss journey for around 3–4 years, during which he lost almost the entire frontal hairline, including temple recession. His condition indicated an advanced stage of baldness (around Grade 4-5), especially affecting the frontal and mid-scalp zones.
Other Hair & Scalp Issues:
Along with baldness in the front, Sumit occasionally experienced mild dandruff and scalp dryness, especially during seasonal changes. However, no major scalp disorders like seborrheic dermatitis or infections were found.
Family History:
Like many patients, Sumit’s condition had a genetic component his father also experienced similar hair loss, which made Sumit more prone to male pattern baldness.
Medical & Surgical History:
Sumit had no history of diabetes, hypertension, or any other chronic health issues. He had also not undergone any major surgeries in the past.
Allergy & Keloid History:
He had no known allergies to medications or foods and no history of keloid formation or abnormal scarring.
Past Treatments Tried:
Before visiting Hairfree & Hairgrow, Sumit had tried over-the-counter multivitamins and oils and briefly used minoxidil. However, he did not get satisfactory results, especially for his bald frontal zone. He had not taken finasteride due to concern over side effects.
Consultation at Hairfree & Hairgrow Clinic:
After researching various clinics, Sumit decided to consult Dr. Jinkal Kunjadiya at our Surat branch. During consultation, a thorough scalp examination and trichoscopy were done. He was explained all treatment options, expected results, and limitations of transplant. After full understanding, Sumit confidently chose to undergo I-FUE hair transplant at Hairfree & Hairgrow clinic.
Treatment Profile of Sumit Thomre:
Sumit’s hair transplant procedure was performed using the I-FUE (Implanter Follicular Unit Extraction) technique. His frontal baldness was restored with the help of over 3500 grafts, ensuring a natural and dense hairline.
Post-transplant, he was advised:
- 5 PRP sessions at 2-month intervals
- Minoxidil 5% topical solution
- DHT Blocker (Finasteride low dose)
- Multivitamin supplements and biotin
Step-by-Step Hair Transplant Procedure of Sumit Thomre:
1. Planning & Design:
- The hairline was custom-designed by Dr. Jinkal Kunjadiya based on facial proportions and desired density.
- Focus was placed on frontal restoration and natural temple angle formation.
- Trichoscopy showed average donor area density, suitable for extracting the required number of grafts.
2. Pre-Op Preparations:
- The full scalp was trimmed and sterilized.
- Local anesthesia sensitivity test was negative (no reaction).
- The vibration anesthesia technique was used to make the procedure pain-free.
3. Graft Extraction:
- Grafts were harvested using a 0.8 mm titanium punch, ensuring minimal scarring.
- A total of 3500+ grafts were extracted within 2.5 hours.
- Graft quality: Mostly double- and triple-rooted units, black in color, and straight hair type.
4. Graft Storage:
- Extracted grafts were stored in chilled RL solution at 4°C using a graft chiller machine to maintain survival rate.
5. Slit Making:
- Slits were created using sapphire blades (1.2 mm for the hairline, 1.4 mm for the density zone).
- Direction, angle, and depth were carefully aligned to achieve natural growth orientation.
6. Implantation:
- K.E.E.P. Implanters were used to place the grafts precisely.
- Implantation was completed in about 3 hours, covering the entire bald front area.
7. Post-Procedure Care:
- Dressing was done, medications were prescribed, and instructions were clearly explained.
- Sumit was also given a dedicated follow-up number for any questions or emergencies.
