R13 - 3743 grafts (2615 FUHT + 1128 beard grafts) 1 year update Dr. A's Clinic from arvind poswal on Vimeo.

Dear readers,
This is a repair case who had undergone a “hair transplant” at some other clinic before coming to us.
This case is also an illustration of how beard donor hair can act as a good additional donor in case of patients with limited/depleted scalp donor reserves.

Regards,
Dr. A

It’s hard to see the results when in the video you position the text comments right over what we’re supposed to be looking at.

Do the characteristics of beard hair change when it’s moved to the scalp?

» Do the characteristics of beard hair change when it’s moved to the scalp?

Dear Ahab,
The beard hair characteristics (hair color, calibre, sheen/lustre, speed of growth, curl/wave) do not change once transplanted to the scalp.

Beard hair, in most instances, does grow longer than other body hair (almost equal to the length of scalp hair)in their original location. Coupled with the fact that most patients go for regular haircuts and do not grow the transplanted beard hair to its full extent, its not possible to say whether it does grow longer on the scalp then it would on the beard.

Having observed numerous cases, in my opinion, the phrase “body hair takes scalp hair characteristics” was a hype created by some but not supported by rigorous scientific proof.

Having said that, I do admit, that we have to observe whether there are any other characteristics of the transplanted hair that could change -

  1. The %age of hair in anagen/telogen,
  2. The duration of anagen, telogen etc.,
  3. The predisposition to greying.

The above 3 characteristics we have not yet studied.

Regards,
Dr. A
