Progress Photos 6 mos post op

I am a repair patient of Dr. Cole’s who made the mistake of going to Bosley in the late 70’s.
BHT was necessary for my repair. It has worked well hiding 4 mm punch scars in the back. I’m a Norwood 6. I’ve had somewhere around 3500 BHT spread over 3 surgeries beginning in Dec. 2005. I am 6 mos. post op from my largest, most recent surgery (around 2000 BHT - leg hair). These photos reflect a 95% body hair transplant. The grafts taken so far haven’t made a dent in my BHT donor supply. Bosley Medical Group created this slightly ridged pluggy mess of a “hairline” in the late 70’s that has proven stubborn to kill off.
I am very encouraged by the results so far. Dr. Cole is not yet happy with the hairline though, and wants to see me again for another surgery sometime in August or September.

Not bad. You are starting to look more and more like Pauly from The Sopranos. Congratulations. Are you married or single. I ask this because I want to know if you noticed a difference in the amount of women that pay attention to you now that you have most of your hair back. I have a feeling this is what my mentor Lawrence Cutsinger will look like in mid July. May I ask how old you are? My friend Lawrence I believe is in his late 60’s. thank you.

Kramer:

I have been married since 1989. My hair thinned as I have gotten older (I’m 55). My wife didn’t seem to care back in the 80’s that I had a crappy Bosley Medical Group HT. It always bothered me though. My younger brother for instance is bald and shaves his head. He has always had girlfriends.

As my hair thinned as I’ve gotten older, donor scarring created by the Bosley Medical Group procedures began to show through my hair in the back and sides of my head. This was a sickening feeling and is much worse than being naturally bald. I am very grateful to Dr. Cole and team for their fine work.

Body hair takes more grafts, but when done properly, it does grow.

Yeah, I can understand wanting to get that corrected and you not being totally comfortable with yourself. I am really surprised that the body hair looks so good up on your head. I never would of known that was body hair. I bet your brother is going to be jealous as is your wife. Now just watch your wife start accusing you of having an affair or something stupid. You know how crazy women get. As a joke tell her you have a gumah like Pauly and Tony Soprano do. A little Soprano humor on the final show ever tonight. Congratulations on a great new look.

You are looking great, neighbor! See you around

Do you feel the the body hair actually grew long or they just thickened up the existing hair you have on top ?

The body hair growing on my scalp is slightly longer than the native leg hair. The average length of the transplanted body hair is between 1 1/8" and 1 1/4" so far.

As far as BH goes do you think it is wise to go back so soon, maybe wait and see what else can grow before having another. From what I can see most BH cases are hit and miss regardless what they say, and it makes it harder to see when mixed with scalp hair.

I remember a patient that Jessica posted a while back that showed noticible thickening of body hair on the scalp between year 1 and 2. I will wait to see what Dr. Cole recommends regarding my next surgery date.

Im happy for ya’ man. You look like an older gentleman with an older man’s hair now. This is why IM glad some docs are willing to try with body hair, and dont understand folks who poor mouth the procedure. It can and does help some folks…and the good part is that the older a man gets, generally speaking his body hair grows better and better. My grandads chest hairs are bigger than any of his head hair ever was. My chest hair is as thick individually as my head hair, and I have pretty decent head hair.

Congrats.

you must be vey happy with your results, it must have been hard to live with your previous bosley HT for 28 years?

Jessica and Benji, thanks for your kind remarks

Jessica is a lovely person and one of the talented techs who helped in my first surgery.

I never had any doubt that the body hair would grow. Early in 2006 I got into some heated debates with the BHT naysayers in another forum. One doctor claimed that only 15% of my grafts would grow.

Body hair takes more grafts and patience, but it does work. If my body hair donor supply were sacks of lawn seed stacked to the ceiling in a 2 car garage, we’ve used about 6 bags so far.

I wore a hat most of the time. When I was put in a situation where I couldn’t wear a hat, such as groomsman in a friend’s wedding, my thoughts were dominated by how badly my hair sucked. It was very embarassing.

It looks decent for what it was but there needs to be a lot more done for it to be a great result. Im still not totally sold on body hair.

Johnny, I don’t think mainneighbor’s objective of posting these wonderful photo results was so you could be “sold” on body hair. I think the guy looks pretty damn good right now. Nobody can tell that it’s body hair and he feels good about himself. Leave it to you to spoil his day with some stupid ass comment about being “sold” on something.

Both Dr. Cole and I are in agreement with you.

The only choice I had was body hair. My first surgery was 1200 BHT and 200 scalp FIT. Dr. Cole will use scalp hair when it’s available before body hair.

You look at the great HT results out there like DJ and Wassup. These guys had the will and determination to see it to the finish. Wassup does not have an illusion of hair. His hair looks better than it did when he was a teenager. I’ve seen him in person. It is a fabulous result. I believe I read somewhere that his surgeries covered about 7 years.

DJ’s hair is amazing as well. He could tell you how many surgeries he has had. Are you out there DJ?

It is a great result . And body hair made it possible . And with a few more procedures it will look even better.

Good work Dr Cole

Do you plan on having more surgeries or is this your last one?

Dr. Cole wants me to return toward the end of this year for more grafts. I’m excited about additional work and will keep everyone updated with photos and video.

Thank you, Dr. Woods. We owe the result to you, Sir. I would never have made the effort to try body hair without your pioneering efforts with body hair. Furthermore, our patient has no other options with his limited and scarred donor area.
