Post operative questions

Hello All,

I recently underwent a FUE procedure for 3200 grafts. It was exactly 3 weeks back.

In others experience – any idea how long the redness in the donor area lasts (realise it varies from person to person)? I am getting a little nervous about having to explain it since I return to work in a couple of weeks. I have been applying Fucidin H cream as per the surgeons instructions, but wondering if anyone knows of a better solution through their own experience?

In the near future I will document my own journey of hair transplants since it’s quite involved.

Thanks

Ak

Hi AK

Redness will linger and depending on skin tone can be more evident, some guys have little to no signs after a few weeks and others it fades and can take even a few months to fully go. It may look worse in artificial lighting such as flourescent than in real life.

I know some guys use womens foundation to help conceal if they are concerned, I’ve personally just made sure not to apply really hot water or get sun to it that will exacerbate redness, avoid hair dryers etc. I massaged well to encourage healing and applied aloe vera and vitamin e cream.

It will heal in its own time and no real magic short cuts out there, but it will fade weekly more and more.

a little topick should tide you over i’m guessing.

We recommend Hair Cycle Post-Biotin Spray to our patients. It can be purchased online at the Hair Cycle website. In the meantime, a concealer product like those mentioned by previous posters should work.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I’ll probably apply Toppik on the recipient site until it has had a chance to grow. It’s quite numb, but the feeling should come back slowly. There are a couple of pimples and redness, but hopefully that will stabiles shortly too.

The donor site is coming through, but still a month away so nervous about heading back to work!

Fingers crossed it works out. I should have really taken 3 months away to fully recover from it all.

Hi Ak,

How is the redness on your scalp now? I’m 3 1/2 weeks after new lower hairline with FUE and really quite red.

Paul

Hi Paul,

The redness has subsided a fair amount, but I am now almost 3 months out from my procedure. I have also been applying Fucidin H cream twice daily. In other words it has taken a significant amount of time and effort. There is still a little bit to go yet.

I would suggest that you contact your surgeon, if you haven’t already, on how best to control the discoloration.

Also please keep in mind that everyone heals differently. However, time is the only real solution. It will heal and normalise, but in time.

Good luck mate

Ak
