Pimples after beard hair transplant

Board, hoping you can help

As you probably know from past posts, I have had several transplants over the years. I have been treated with various procedures; strip, FUE, BHT

Anyway, I have a good deal of beard hair in my crown (~2,000 grafts) and I have been getting some really bad pimples (2 years post op from last procedure). Some of the pimples are ingrown hairs but most are just pimples without any growth underneath. I cant understand why I would have this concentration of pimples only in my crown.

Anyone have beard hair transplant and experiencing this?

Thanks

I have had beard grafts and got the normal pimples at 4 months post-op. We had a patient in who told me that some of his grafts took 2 years to grow.

On another note, I want to share a recent experience related to pimples. I had root canal surgery several years ago and the dentist didn’t get all of the root out. The cap or crown placed on the tooth did not fit properly with too wide of a gap between the tooth. Food got trapped and I was always getting pimples on my nose and face. The tooth got infected and the pain was intense. I noticed the pain running up toward my sinuses and even the corner of my eye was aching. Antibiotics knocked out the infection. The dentist who prescribed the antibiotics was expecting me back to have the tooth pulled because the xray they took indicated a crack in the tooth.

I never went back to have the tooth pulled and have been flossing twice per day using an antiseptic mouthwash. Long story short, the pimples remain completely cleared up several months after ending the antibiotics. Studies indicate that bacteria below the gum line can even contribute to heart disease. That bacteria can cause all sorts of health issues. Possibly even pimples on the scalp. Just something to consider and try.

The truth is that there are certain skin germs that may lead to serious infections (staphylococcus and streptococcus are of the most worrying ones), yet the infections that start from the mucus tissue (like those starting in the mouth) can spread more rapidly and get more serious for the general health status.

As doctors we always need to be careful when we deal with skin tissues that normally host germs.

In DHI we have done hair implantations using extracted hair follicles from the beard area.

We usually extract hairs from the area under the line of the jaw mainly for aesthetic reasons, so that if the patient desires to grow beard in the future, he will not have reduced density or any spots from the extracted follicles.

We always make sure that there is no skin inflammation or any sign of active local infection of the skin, at the jaw donor area.

Following the medical rules of local skin antisepsis, prophylactic antibiotic medication and the specific DHI post-op instructions, we never experienced local irritations, dermatitis or pimples at the recipient area.

We also had a very good hair growth percentage, that reached almost the 70% of the implanted hair follicles.
