Btw, I sent an e-mail to the researcher interviewed in that article last week, but I didn’t get any response. Maybe they want to keep it as secret as possible, which is understandable of course.
I will try to get more info from some people I know.

Those guys along with Cotsarelis team and the other team of Chromosme 20 are basically revolutionizing our basic understanding of the hair and skin dynamics. This is a very good signe to me beacause all the failed attempts to find a cure for MPB were halted, I think, due to some wrong knowledge we have in this field that was short-circuiting our equations everytime. I’d not be able to tell you when those findings will translate into a cure though, stills, something is in the process of fruition.

If it wasn’t for the evil corporations funding new products you lefties would still be taking the aspirin the communists handed out to cure radiation poisoning. Corporations are the only ones who ever find a solution to anything using economic liberty. You are basically comparing free-market(pharmaceuticals) to socialized medicine. What does corporations have anything to due with alsaka’s socialized medicine? If current US healthcare model is so perfect then why do tens of millions of americans are without health insurance. Why is the leading cause of bankruptcy in US - medical bills?
Bottom line is that Socialized medicine works, it has nothing to do with pharmas. Pharmas can still work freely and compete with each other while the government runs the health management system.
For anyone, who’s gonna whine about how long it takes to get an exam done in socialized medicine. I live in US (in middle class area, non-existant illegal immigrants), and most of the times appointments from specialists take 2-3 weeks and I’ve had experience with all sorts of specialists as well. If properly implemented the socialized healthcare is the only right way of assuring health of all the citizens and keep the country functioning smoothly.

First of all, my primary objection was you comparing alaska’s socialized medicine to pharmas…which like I said earlier has NO link. Socialized medicine simply means that the government pays for people’s health. Pharmas can still operate independently the way they are doing now.
As of canada’s health system, I’ve heard of stories about that as well BUT at the same time there are many stories of people getting lifelong cancer treatments etc which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars at almost no cost because the government takes care of it. Maybe canada needs to spend more money into building hospitals to offset the load.
At the same time, I think people waiting in line is MUCH BETTER than millions of fellow citizens without any health coverage whatsoever. Who is reponsible when those people get sick? The biggest disadvantage of NO health insurance is that by the time people seek government assitance, it’s way too late and costs too much to treat. That’s why health industry now is focusing a lot on Preventive care, than treatment - much cheaper to keep people disease free, than to cure the disease. Which again comes down to the fact, that millions don’t have insurance…so how do you keep millions disease free to begin with?
