» Here is one challenge for the Harris clinic. Will blunt dissection using
» the SAFE technique cut the erector muscle which is necessary for clean
» removal of the follicle???

Marco. Dr. Harris reply…

"Tom,

Studies by Jimenez support the fact that the muscles attached to every one
of the hairs in a follicular unit. If the unit is removed by definition the
muscle attachment can no longer exist. I think it’s bluntly separated, but
we’re splitting hairs here…what defines “clean” removal, who defines
"clean" and does it matter whether it’s “clean” or not?

Continued… Dr. Harris,

"Tom

By definition, if the punch is small enough the muscle will be detached. I’d
have to review the studies, but if a punch is say, 2.5 mm, it may leave the
muscle attached. If you’re sliding right down the follicle shaft you’ll go
right through them. I’d like to think that the blunt technique "gently"
separates the muscle but it is so small nobody knows.
See attached pic…

Dr. Harris"

PLease thank Dr. Harris for his reply. Cheers.

actually, it is cole that makes a point of emphasising sharp disection of the muscle. see article link below. there is a more detailed comment by him somewhere but I cannot find it right now.

I guess both techniques dissect the muscle.
