I felt I should share this. I had a hair transplant at Dr. A’s clinic in October 2007. It’s been just a little over a year and im very happy with the results. You can find my case over in the HT forum…THANKS DR. A!
Anyway I noticed this summer that I was still losing my hair in the non-HT area. In fact at the end of the summer i had a pretty major shed. I’m early NW-7. So, I came to the forums and read up a bit and found a regimen of prescriptions/supplements that have really worked for me.
Here’s what I take.
Morning:
Nature Made Super B Complex - Vitamin
Finasteride 1mg
One a Day Multivitamin
Natures Herbs Macca Root - 1,000mg
Now, I don’t have pictures, so feel free to be skeptical. I’m just sharing this. But, my hair is much thicker, stronger, and has darkened in the non-HT areas since starting this full regimen in August. The strangest part is that it feels different. I don’t know if you have ever gotten the feeling when running your finger through your hair that it was just about to fall out…well I had that feeling. Now, not so much. Everything feels strong and rooted. I don’t know a better way to describe it than that.
I’m extremely happy with the results of my HT and now of the supplement regimen that I’m taking. I hope it can help some of you.
Prior to adding the herbal supplements I was using finasteride and rogaine and was still undergoing significant shedding.

congrats whatever works is good
i would say the DHT blockers are similar to mine
the vitamins are somewhat similar, i guess there are a lot of Bs
how much biotin is in your regimen
Nate, have you ever thought of dropping the finasteride and rogaine, and going all “natural” ?
I see that you have Maca in your regimen as well. Many at another forum used this supplement, and claimed that it increased their libido. Considering all of the DHT-blocking that is being employed, you are wise to also have a supplement that can balance out your hormonal system.

» I dropped finas and went all natural once, no good, shed like crazy. Now I
» am using both.
Yes, I have read similar cases. I guess it depends on the person. M3Nate wrote that he experienced a significant shed while on finasteride and rogaine. So I wondered aloud why he continued to use them. Of course, some people feel that “shedding” is a good thing, presaging growth of new and thicker hair. But I am not one of them, however.
Any sudden loss of hair would prompt me to subtract from, rather than add to my regimen. Actually, I would probably do a little bit of both. But I would definitely want to stop taking any and everything associated with this fall out. I would start over, adding one supplement every month or so, assessing its effect on my scalp and hair.

If you have tested different combinations and this works for you - Id say you have it nailed supplement wise!
Your next step is to get a topical regime going to help with regrowth /inflammation.
Piroctone Olamine shampoo and a topical similar to the one used in the “scottish study” should help for now!
