Lysine hair loss treatment is the real deal,

I tried several experiments, I am convinced Lysine is the real deal when used with Propecia. Every time I added lysine to my routine, my hair is so much thicker and hair loss almost dropped to zero.

Propecia/minox etc are ok, but adding lysine really makes a huge difference.

Lysine is available everywhere, very cheap, it’s worth a try.

Do you know why that would be? what does Lysine really do?

I don’t take propecia…do you think it would be beneficial for me take it without propecia?

I had tried propecia without lysine , it just didn’t work that well for me, I don’t know why or what lysine does exactly, I have been experimenting using propecia with/without lysine for a couple years, hair loss dropped to zero each time i added lysine to my regimen. At first I thought that was just a coincidence but after a couple of years I am convinced lysine is what makes the difference for me.

Sorry, I wish I know why

I have heard this before. Spencer Kobren was recommending this years ago when I listened to his radio program. What is the dosage you use?

There was a patent issued in 2000. Worth reading. Finasteride is mentioned in the patent.

“Use of Lysine in the treatment of hair loss” -

http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6136860/description.html

We have also discovered that administration of lysine to patients results in a dramatic increase in the efficacy of known treatments for genetic hair loss (which term covers a number of conditions variously referred to as androgen-dependent alopecia, androgenic alopecia, androgenetic alopecia, common baldness, female baldness, diffuse hair loss and male pattern baldness).

Thus, in a further aspect of the present invention there is provided a kit including a plurality of separate containers, each containing at least one active agent useful in a combination therapy for the treatment of genetic hair loss, wherein said kit includes L-lysine and at least one further active agent selected from minoxidil, anti-androgens, 5α-reductase inhibitors, aromatase inhibitors and corticosteroids.

There is also provided a therapeutic combination for the treatment of genetic hair loss comprising L-lysine and at least one further active agent selected from minoxidil, anti-androgens, 5α-reductase inhibitors, aromatase inhibitors and corticosteroids.

Typical examples of anti-androgens which can be used include cyproterone acetate, spironolactone, medroxyprogesterone acetate and flutamide which can, for example, be formulated for oral or topical administration. Type I, type II or mixed type I and type II 5 α-reductase inhibitors can be used, e.g. finasteride. A typical example of a suitable corticosteroid is dexamethasone.

In a preferred embodiment, the kit comprises L-lysine and at least one further active agent selected from minoxidil and one or more anti-androgens, which are preferably chosen from cyproterone acetate, spironolactone and medroxyprogesterone acetate. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the kit comprises L-lysine which is formulated for oral administration and minoxidil which is formulated for topical application.

The co-administration of L-lysine with known treatments for genetic hair loss such as minoxidil and anti-androgens results in a significant improvement in the efficacy of the treatment. The reason for this improvement in efficacy is not currently understood.

I take 1000mg per day, the recommended dose on the bottle is 1500mg, I decided to only take 1000.

Do you take 1000 mg all at once or in divided doses? And do you take it at the same time as Fin or at different times?

Good find hairsite, finally some good info about lysine for hairloss, I am one of the first to use lysine+Propecia for hair, you can check my older posts , most posters ignore my posts because there are no studies to backup why lysine works better when used together with Propecia. Now i know I am correct all along!

My initial question is the side effect profile.

Will Lysine actually aid hair preservation without increasing the side effects from the medication in a matching proportion?

Or is it just a way to make the existing medication hit your system harder?

I take 1000mg all at once around lunch time.

doh, I don’t know, I have never thought about that, what are lysine’s side effects or are you talking about enhancing Propecia’s side effects only?

I never experienced any long lasting or permanent side effects from Propecia.

Well I also use lysine and finasteride (and have used it a time before and along with minoxidil, too).
And yes it (again) adds up very nicely.
Also 1g lysine but before bed.

1 gram/day sounds like quite a bit. Have you tried taking less at any point?

What I was getting at with the side effects comments is, are we talking about something that works separately from the Finasteride?

1g is not that much; e.g. in different types of protein the amount of lysine ranges from 4-9g/100g of protein, with grains edging low and milk protein high on the scale.
No, I have not tried a smaler dosage since 1g is the recommanded dosage/one of the recommanded dosages.
And I do not feel like lysine is potentiating the side effects of finasteride;
on its own lysine is known to help the immune system. I do not know how this relates to hairloss.

In general, I think helping the immune system = helping fight MPB.

We don’t understand all of the mechanisms behind it but this seems to be a pattern of results.

I currently take 500mg of Lysine 3x’s a day.

how long have you been doing this? are you also using Propecia?

Ok so i have been on propecia for liek 7 yrs now and my hair this past year has started to thin in the front…but i dont lose much hair a day…maybe at most 20 tops but its usually around 10…so i just started L-lysine this week…1000mg a day one after lunch and one before bed. Will this grow back any hair at all or thicken up anything…i just want back soem coverage…just to make it a bit thicker…how much can i expect…what are peoples experience with this?

IPOD, do you find that Lysine makes a big difference for you as well when combined with FIN??

Do you believe EVERYTHING you read on every smarmy Web site (the one promoting lysine for hair loss)?? There is no serious medical research that supports the use of lysine for that purpose. I think the people who took out that “patent” are just trying to make a buck. Caveat emptor, for chrissake.
