» It’s because this forum has been pretty dead for a long time. Not sure of
» the reasons why. If you wanted a lot of commentary on your photos, you
» should have posted back two or three years ago, when there was a LOT more
» activity going on here.
»
» Ahhhh…the good ol’ days, when such supremely oddball characters as
» “Common Sense” were plying their trade here!

Not sure why? it doesn’t take a genius to figure that out, back then we had high hopes for Avodart, sadly it turned out that it is not the magic bullet that everyone had hope for. People don’t believe in this hit or miss crap shoot anymore. There are no new products in the pipelines. Even if there are new drugs, we all know it’s not going to work for everyone. The only thing people are waiting for these days is hair multiplication. Other than that, there is really no excitement in the hair loss community, same old , same old.

Terrible shed in vertex and crown.

» I’ve finally received my batch of generic avodart. On Dec. 4, '08 I
» started Dutasteride 2.5mg daily (5 caps). I had a whole line of treatments
» to take with it including gingko biloba, vitamins, and all sworts of other
» goodies. However, I delayed everything else so that if I get any results,
» good or bad, I would know where they came from.
»
» So far my erections have been super better since the second day. I know
» this for a fact. Don’t notice any other side effects as of yet. I plan on
» taking 2.5mg daily for atleast 2 week and then drop to 0.5mg daily with an
» addition of 2.5mg finasteride. Why? Because 2.5mg of dutasteride have been
» shown in the clinical trials to provide the best effects stopping 98% of
» DHT. However, 2.5mg of dut daily wil burn a whole in your pocket. TOO
» EXPENSIVE. So, being that finasteride and dutasteride share similar
» properties in make-up, taking 2.5mg of fin with 0.5mg of dutasteride will
» save me tons of money and provide better results than 0.5 mg of dut alone.
»
» If side effects are noted then I will drop 2.5mg to 0.5mg+fin. If side
» effects are still noted, then I will drop to just 0.5mg of dut. However, I
» will take into consideration that dut hair growth are usualy shown post 1
» yr mark. Therefore, I will not stop because of shedding or anything else.
»
» Will eventually add to my regime:
»
» Nioxin nightly
» Reg. Shampoo mornings
» 5% minox (nightly only)
» Multi-vitamins
» Biotin
» Saw Pametto
» Gingko Biloba
»
» Will keep everyone posted very frequently.
»
» By the way… I will also be getting a hair transplant with dr Alvi Armani
» (FUE) in March of 2009. And will continue with the above regime
» thereafter.
»
» Feel Free to ask any questions.

Avodart pretty much destroyed my life. I took it for about 2 yrs. It will basically turn you into a women dude. It will also mess with your immune system. And yes, i did get amazing hair results but had to stop due to serious side effects. I now have seborrhoeic dermatitis because of avodart and my skin has aged.

A very very rare side effect. In like 1% of the people using it. You must’ve been prone to gyno…sorry to hear.

where do you buy topical fluridil and topical RU58841/flutamide???

Shedding…but oddly only the back of my head (donor area); not sure it that’s common or normal.

Here I am updating again even though I promised I wouldnt. I’m such a nice guy

My libido is still intact and as fine and normal as ever. I have no current side effects to note. My memory and focus are A+. I have been shedding lately though, which is a minor bump in the rode. Might be from upping the nizoral to everyday usage.

By the way, I know many take saw palmetto with finasteride, but would it be redundant to take it with dutasteride as well? What are the pros and cons?

(PS Niz is f**kin awsome. I highly recommend everyday usage and you will see what I’m talking about).

Skip the saw palmetto, dude. It will add nothing to your treatment. If you’re looking to add something I would look into a topical SOD formula like Folligen, Tricomin, or Prox-N. I prefer Folligen.

Prox-N has crappy reviews, Tricomin makes you wonder which one of their tons of products to choose from, and I’m not too familiar with Folligen.

Mj, has your shedding stopped??? How long has it lasted?

» Mj, has your shedding stopped??? How long has it lasted?

No it hasn’t stopped. I think it’s going on three weeks now. It might be from the nizoral shampoo i just bumped to everyday recently. Or from the minoxidil. Who knows. but it hasent stopped YET.

On a side note, the longer my hair gets the more my crown shows. I think the photos I posted a while back may not be accurate because it was short hair. Ill post new photos later so we can compare again.

Libido is perfectly fine, incase you’re wondering.

Man, my crown looks like shyt. I’m not sure when dut’s going to kick in and give me some regrowth! :crying:

I feel for the both of us. With those great talks about the 2.5 dose of dut, Ive upped mine to 1.5 mg to see what happens…and I’ve been shedding for about two or three weeks and I’m hoping for some good regrowth in the coming months.

I take both Saw Palmetto and Proscar, yes they may be a bit redundant, but Saw Palmetto is cheap so I threw it into my regimen and I must say, that along with a hair vitamin has my hair looking just awesome!!!

How long have you been on it?

#96

Hey fckhrls, I have been on the 1.5 mg dosage for about three months while the serious shed started after the first month of being on it. I’m not too informed on how long sheds last but maybe around the six month mark?

Bro you can and should drop to 0.5mg daily now. The end results will be the same but with less sides. You frontloaded with dut which is good as you will stabalize faster, but you could have acieved that the first 10 days of the frontload. Refer to Brian’s chart on Dutasteride for more help and better explanation.

OOOOOMGGGGGGGG ! ! ! !

massive massive massive MASSIVE shed! In 1 week my hair has NEVER shed so much or so fast. My heart races just thinking about it or looking in the mirror. The biggest worry is that it shed my hair transplanted hairs at 5.5 mnths!!! is this normal?? Will they regrow? I sure hope so. As far as the rest of my hair I’m confident it will regrow gradually. However, the shedding of my transplanted hairs is what concerns me most. I’ve yet read anything about this or regarding this through anyone else’s experience.

Mj, I had been of .5mg of dut for the past couple of years but I figured I’d try and see the results of 1.5mg each day would be. I had already done a couple weeks of 2.5mg for the loading stage.

MJ2003, I commend you for documenting your experience for others and I am definitely not having a pop at you but have you ever taken a step back and thought about whether this is all worth it ?

Maybe my view is too far removed from yours, I am a NW6 who buzzes on a 0# guard down to stubble, I think it looks OK but of course I miss the image in my head of how I think I should still look. I do not have as much hair as you and given the choice I would obviously prefer not to suffer MPB but if it means having to go through what you do every day - the health risks; the time; the emotional rollercoaster of such sheds; - I wouldn’t even consider trading places, it would be my worst nightmare.

I come on these boards looking for an HT (not a good enough candidate with current procedures unfortunately) or for HM (‘within 5 years’ as usual  ). Perhaps I just don’t care enough about hair loss - I would be prepared to pay big bucks but not the constant time and health risks that these drugs require.

I figure these are all judgement calls we have to make. I wish you the best of luck and thanks again for documenting your journey to help others - it just goes to show that we all have massively different tolerances and priorities.
