Had to stop using Minoxidil after 2 months post FUE - worried about results

Hi guys, okay after 2 months post op, of my FUE procedure with Dr.Armani ( which was a great experience ), I had to stop using Minoxidil as instructed by my doctor because of side effects.

I usually weight between 156-158 pounds, but after using Minoxidil for 2 months my weight shot up to 180 pounds! It was all water weight and it made my face puffy and swollen, aswell as made my heart feel weird at times, and made my face around my eye’s look like a warewolf.

Im a few days past 3 months post op, and since quitting the minoxidil, i lost all the water weight and am now back to my original weight.

But Dr.Armani instructs his patients to use Minoxidil twice per day for the first year post op then once per day for another year. I cant even use 2% minox once per day my body just super absorbs the stuff and it doesnt agree with my system at all.

Anyways, so im worried that i wont get as good a final result because of this. I am using Dr.Armani’s hair thinning tonic and Folligen as replacements, but they dont stimulate hair growth nearly as good as minox.

So has anybody had FUE done and didnt use Minoxidil, and still have an amazing result? Am i going to get less of a final result because i cant use Minoxidil? Im really worried about this.

I was told that the purpose of the minoxidil post op is to ensure good blood flow and nutrient absorbtion to the recepient area. There are other topicals that can acheive this i beleive.

Anyways, some insight and help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bump please guys!

This is why the generaal advice from posters is to try minox and propecia for a first full year before they start transplants.Minox is good but propecia is even better, if you can handle propecia i wouldnt worry about minox so much.

Generally the results of a transplant with minox and propecia are day and night with the results without drugs. But if you are ok with propecia i wouldnt worry about minox so much. Also i think you said you had a full head of hair and you only had a transplant in the front, minox doesnt do wonders for the front so i wouldnt worry so much…transplants work without minox, if the grafts are placed properly then you dont need anything, they will grow.

good luck man try not to freak out

Thanks, im surprised by the lack of responses on here. Basically i was asking because DHT resistant hair is transplanted so why would the grafts not survive or grow without minox? Im guessing something else could be used in its place to stimulate blood flow and nutrient absorbtion, ect.

Thats why i wanted to hear from FUE patients who didnt use Minox and hear how there results were. MANY people cant tolerate minox. Propecia is essential but why should one have to use minox to make sure the FUE grafts survive and grow?

If Minox has caused you side effects then do not worry. In my opinion the non-use of Minox will have no affect on the outcome of your FUE results. There are a plethora of perfect hair transplant results without the use of Minox post operatively.

Rawman,

A lot of doctors are encouraging Rogaine after a procedure these days to increase blood flow. There have been numerous studies that suggest applying Rogaine after a procedure will help the follicles come out of the resting phase faster and promote early growth.

Do I think you will not get as good a result because you cannot use Rogaine? Absolutely not. Dr. Armani was getting fantastic results from his procedures before ever adding Rogaine to our patients post op regimen.

A natural supplement that I used is called He Shou Wu. It increases blood flow to the scalp.

Hey guys, okay great! Thanks for the replies. Sounds good.

Hey Pats205, yep ive been studying nutrition and herbalism and He Shou Wu is an amazing jing tonic herb that also is supposed to help with hairloss in general, aswell as reverse grey hair. Definetly going to start high dosing that herb along with some other jing herbs when i get some money!

Glad to hear minox isnt essential and there are other options.

Thanks guys!

Hey rawman check this link as well about hen…i started researching online because it sounded interesting but i found this and it scared me

http://www.itmonline.org/arts/hsw_alert.htm

How are you doing Rawman. I had 4000 FUE’s done with Dr. Armani. And personally let me tell you that using minoxidil in the operated area is vital for getting positive results. Dr. Armani is adamant about doing this and I could see why. I understand that you might not respond well to minoxidil, but you should definitely look into why that is the case and if there is anything you can do to continue being on minoxidil. Using minoxidil in the operated area has definitely maximized my results. However, following the post-op instructions of your surgeon are vital in achieving the best possible results.

Well that really sucks to hear! I dont know why i cant use it, it really doesnt matter why the fact is the drug makes me hold 10-15 pounds of water retention, it super absorbs in my system, makes me skin look horrible, grows hair all over my face and around my eye’s, makes my face look like a blow fish, puffy, swollen, ect.

I dont understand why minoxidil would needed if im stimulating blood flow to the area with other products.

I ve never heard this thing before from any doctor!!!that you need minox for your grafts to grow i dont know if it has to do with dense packing and maybe the maximum blood is needed so that the grafts can survive!

rawman why dont you use it for the first year just to be sure and then stop it?Or use 2% once per day, drink alot of water to fight the water retention and such.

I know these sides from minox i have them for years. Not so severe as yours but i know them.It makes you look f8cking ugly even if you are a goodlooking guy. Me i stopped it for 2 weeks now( i buzz my hair no1) and everybody is saying that my face has changed that i lost weight and that i look so much better with the shaved head now.

It sucks lol…now i wanna see how it will affect my hair

Hi Rawman,

Sorry to hear of the complications that you experienced with Minoxidil. It can definitely cause weight problems for oral users, but typically just irritation when use as a topical. There are several other forms of anagen stimulators than Minoxidil. Many of our patients don’t use Minoxidil and get aesthetically pleasing results. The stimulation of anagen is important because it allows your hair to be actively growing for a longer period of time. The longer your hair grows, the better your chances are to maintain your pre-existing hair (non-transplanted hair). When you think of the whole hair cycle process, you can easily compare it to the life cycle of human teeth. Hair growth is of a cyclical nature! As a young child, we normally get baby teeth first then they shed to become bigger and stronger. It’s much like a patient on maximal medical therapy; their hair is positively affected and can become better in caliber after each cycle.
