I just want to say that I am really disappointed with these “free online consultations” so far. I have been waiting for an answer from Dr. Cole’s office and Dr. Umar’s office since Xmas. I’ve heard from only one office and that was Dr. Woods, who were very prompt in answering. Just thought you might want to know …

If I recall, I did send 2nd request on your behalf. If you still haven’t heard from them, chances are that they do not think you are a good candidate for hair transplant. Let me take a look at your case again. I think you had strip done before and it wasn’t successfuly.

Yes, I had 3 previous strip methods … the first two were with a plastic surgeon, who wasn’t, in my opinion now, qualified to do them, and I did not have a net gain. However, on the third one, I used Shapiro, and I did have a net gain. I do not want to do another strip method, because my scalp is uncomfortably tight and would rather do the FUE.

I should correct myself … I HAVE heard from Dr. Cole’s office, but I haven’t received an opinion back from the photos and information that I have submitted so far (submitted on the 8th). I understand that the doctor was out of the office for awhile, so maybe that is the issue. With that, I do apologize. I did take some better pics, which are clearer and close-up and I resubmitted tonight. When I started this journey several years ago, my hair was a mess (my whole crown was half of what I have now), I went through a horrible divorce, the death of my mom, and my job moving out of state (all within 6 months time), so stress I am sure had something to do with it along with hormones and genetics. It has come a long way, especially with some of the advice that was given to me by Shapiro on different things I could do to increase hair growth and density.

It is devastating for a woman to lose her hair and only be given lame excuses by the medical community, that she must simply “live with it.” I can’t walk around with caps on like guys can. I am a businesswoman who is in front of customers all day, and I have to look good.

Anyway, I still have not heard one word from Umar’s office …

Alex

Alex- Call Dr. Umar’s office. His staff are much better to deal with over the phone. I am sure they get a great deal of emails, so when you call you’ll have someone’s full attention. His staff are extremely helpful.

Thanks Rooster. I’ll try calling tomorrow. I’ve heard from Dr. Cole’s office, and have been told that I am in the next batch of consults. He was out during the holidays, so I think he’s trying to play catch up. I get impatient sometimes. This hair thing is just really frustrating. Sometimes, I think I need to just look back at where I started and see how much more hair I have compared to eight years ago … I am grateful for what I have, because it could be alot worse. I’m just tired of wearing this damn Dermatch on my head. I don’t feel as feminine as I should and it really bothers me. To think this all could have been avoided, if I had not settled for what my doctors were telling me, makes me mad at myself too. I’ve learned the hard way to not accept no for an answer. Anything is possible, you know? Anyway … thanks for the tip.

Alex, are you a female candidate?

Alex- I feel for you. I feel the same way about dermatch.

Hi Marco. Yes … I am a female candidate. I think more and more women are having problems with thinning hair. I’ve noticed it more just in the last five years … when I am out in public. I certainly hope my daughters don’t have the problems i’ve had … so far, they all have thick gorgeous hair. So, when they complain that its so heavy or too much work, I bring them back to reality … lol.

Alex

» Alex- I feel for you. I feel the same way about dermatch.

Hey … hairsite … I have heard from Dr. Umar, but I didn’t get any specifics; such as, how many graphs, price, etc. Sooooo … I sent him back another request.

I heard from Dr. Cole, and I am considering him. I was surprised that he only recommended 200 pubic graphs (BHT’s), because i thought i would have to have much more. Unless pubic hair has a thicker texture to it than head hair? I thought I read somewhere on this board that body hair texture isn’t as thick? In any case, I want to make sure I explore all options, because I do not want to go through the physical and monetary expense ever again.

Could you tell me who else does BHT’s? FUE’s? Combination FHT/BHT’s using FUE’s? I would like to look at a few HT surgeons … I know that you originally had suggested Dr.Woods, Dr. Cole and Dr. Umar; however, Dr. Woods is so far away, which is really too bad, because his work looks great. I want to make sure that I am well informed before making a decision. Thanks again “hairsite.”

Alex

Most of the doctors are behind with the consultations. Now that you have established a dialogue with Dr. Umar, feel free to ask him for the specifics directly. As far as I know, Dr. Umar still charges US$5 per graft. You will have to wait for him re: details about # of grafts etc.

Very often, priority is given to those whom they believe are strong candidates for hair transplant. There is a chance that the doctors may feel that you are not a good candidate for hair transplant, and this may explain the delay in getting back to you.

Doing a small session first is a good idea in my opinion. Body hair is unpredictable. A small session will give you a good idea what kind of yield you can expect. You can always opt for more if the result is satisfactory. It is a good thing that he is willing to do a small session for you.

I know you are not inclined to travel far. Your options are limited as a result. There are other FUE/BHT doctors overseas:

Dr. Woods - Australia
Dr. Woods-Campbell - Australia
Dr. Jones - Canada
Dr. Arvind - India
Dr. Bisanga - Belgium
