Dr. Umar now offers Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) hair treatment in his California clinic at Redondo Beach.
NON HAIR TRANSPLANT PATIENTS
The primary purpose of PRP usage in Dr. Umar’s clinic is to cater to patients with thinning hair but not yet ready for hair transplants.
HAIR TRANSPLANT PATIENTS
In addition, Dr. Umar has developed a PRP protocol for his hair transplant patients, taking advantage of the notion that PRP accelerates wound healing.
Specifically, Dr. Umar will use or apply platelet rich plasma in the following aspects of the hair transplant procedure:
donor areas of his FUE and BHT patients post extraction in order to expedite donor healing.
directly onto hair transplant grafts and in recipient sites to enhance yield as well as recipient site healing to decrease downtime for the patient.
Feel free to raise any questions in this thread for Dr. Umar.
dr umar, how confident are u that this will help hair transplant yield? i dont suppose there are actual studies behind this for hair transplant use, this is pretty much an experiment u r doing, true?
dr. Umar do you believe that PRP treatment alone has the potential to give some decent results to a patient with moderate thinning? (even if that is to a later -improved- version of PRP)

Dr. Umar,
How much do you think PRP can help the donor site? Our hope for ACELL was that it could heal the donor site to such an extent that it would yield almost a limitless supply for HT’s. Do you think PRP could have a similar effect in allowing for more HT’s than before? My only concern is that the effects of PRP seem to fade after 6-8 months in the thinning areas where it is injected, and this may also be the case in the donor site areas.
Thanks.

Yes it is experimental at this time. Although we are using FDA approved materials, the premise for its use in this instance hair growth/regeneration is experimental.

PRP has a track record in wound healing, and has found application in the treatment of even stubborn ulcers. If it speeds up healing rate and cut down on the downtime in a patient that has had for example beard hair extractions, it would be a significant finding. If the final result 1 year down the road show an advantage cosmetically, that also could be significant. I do not expect it to regrow hair from extraction sites. I am assuming at this point that PRP could regenerate miniturized follicles rather than bringing them about where they did not exist in the first place.

I really don’t see the relevance of PRP being used for FUE. However, Body FUE is a whole new ball park. And there is no better doc to start using it than dr Umar. I wish you nothing but success Dr Umar and am very delighted to hear that you’re using PRP. If proved successful, I think this is the next breakthrough for hair transplants.
Thanks for your hard work Dr. Umar. I’m sure there’s nothing to lose by seeing if PRP actually enhances the efficacy of beard to scalp hair transplantation.

The doctor has stated in above posts that he DOES NOT expect this to regrow hair where no hair was there before, and even this is premature speculation on his part, he has no evidence to back this up, or he would have stated such.
but you guys are so excited for it to work , you cant even read closely enough his reply, or you choose to mold his reply to what you want to hear
I would be happy with thickening existing miniaturized hairs which the good doctor did mention this new treatment can do.

I asked the dr about the costs in here is the answer
We would keep the cost very low at this stage. Mostly to cover for the cost of material. I expect at this stage it would cost about $400-500. until we can show tangible results we would not aim to profit from the procedure. If the results are not tangible or impressive enough, we would discontinue the procedure promptly.
If thats really his statement, then it sounds very reasonably and fair. I also hope that Dr Umar would inclined inform us when he does have a PRP candidate ready to undergo the treatment and let us know gradually of the outcome.
