Last week dr. Ilter has presented his experience to his peers regarding FUE megasessions. During the ESHRS meeting in Paris he informed his collegues about his past 4 years going from 400 grafts per day to now 3000 FUE grafts per day.
Obviously the biggest challenge was to reduce transection rates during this ‘blind’ procedure. His claims about his incredibly low transection rates combined with ultra small instruments has long been raising many eyebrows. Yet his claims to his collegues are no different than what I have been presenting here on this and other board for a long time.
Gladly he acccepted the offer to backup his findings during a live surgery. I am not sure if it will be performed at the next ISHRS or the next ESHRS.
In any case mega FUE are reality. The days that we spend
3 days in the chair for 2000 grafts (like I did several years ago) are over.

Its hard to beleive that someone could do that many grafts in one day without killing a lot of grafts.

If I was not in a priviledge situation of seeing it with my own eyes I probably would be even more doubtfull than you.
However seeing is believing, and I have seen it on many occasions.

Its true, FUE wont become the main surgery until the prices come down.
We are doing a 2800 FUE session on a patient next week with our Belgian doc.
He will be charged 9000 Euro, or 3,2 Euro per graft (even with the bad dollar euro conversion it is about 4 dollar per graft.

All well and good, price is always a consideration, but only when you have it done, not a decider on who the doc will be. From the 2800 session you are going to bverotti, what size tool are you going to use, and what do you expect the growth rate and transection rate to be.
FUE megasession is not new. It has been done before, this is not a first. What really matters is the results. If 3000 grafts give us half decent yield then it’s just wasting follicles.

Well, since we do not have anything larger than 0,7 onboard this is straightforward.
In the responses/questions I get I feel that some of them are deja-vu. Long gone are the days where mega strip sessions where looked upon very sceptically. It took years before mega strip sessions where widely accepted.

Indeed, but if they produce similar or equal yield than it is a huge step forwards for patients choosing FUE.
And let there be no mistake about it, good FUE proceduces equal yield to good strip : ‘an intact grafts is an intact graft’.

There is a bit of a difference now, large strip sessions rely on a large and good technical team, it is just a matter of numbers, FUE relies of the doc sitting there and punching all the hairs, a little bit more intensive for the doctor I would say. Does your doctors remove all the hairs or the techs too, when are they placed, in stages or in one go after they have been removed? and any videos or pictures of before and after results of a FUE “mega session” working well?
