CYTOMEDIX CEO ISSUES SHAREHOLDER UPDATE - 16 Jul 08
http://www.cytomedix.com/pressreleases/Jul16_08.htm

Officially launched the AutoloGel™ System in the first quarter of this year to treat wounds.

Cytomedix maintains an intellectual property portfolio of seven U.S. Patents, and comparable international patents, covering a range of advanced tissue regeneration technologies, including wound care, angiogenesis, hair growth and anti-inflammatory therapies.

As I mentioned earlier, there are other potential applications for our AutoloGel™ technology including hair growth or transplantation, application in combination with other wound care products, and application or delivery of cellular therapeutic products including stem cells. We are actively seeking strategic partnerships and/or licensing opportunities for many of these uses. We are continuing to pursue additional reimbursement pathways, including Medicare, and to exploit other applications and strategic alliances for AutoloGel™ such as hair transplantation.

At the same time, we are developing new important peptides from within our patent portfolio, which offer the potential for a fresh approach to angiogenesis, and address the multi-billion dollar anti-inflammatory therapeutic markets.

July 16, 2008 - Cytomedix maintains an intellectual property portfolio of seven U.S. Patents, and comparable international patents, covering a range of advanced tissue regeneration technologies, including wound care, angiogenesis, hair growth and anti-inflammatory therapies.

Both Patents are IDENTICAL:

Method for promoting hair growth. US Patent 4,957,742 - 18.09.90

Method for promoting hair growth . US Patent 5,178,883 - 12.01.93.
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=5,178,883.PN.&OS=PN/5,178,883&RS=PN/5,178,883

Abstract
Platelet enriched plasma is produced from blood. The platelets are activated by thrombine which causes therelease of platelet-derived growth and angiogenesis factors. A carrier such as a microcrystalline collagen is added to produce a wound-treating salve. The composition is applied directly to wounds and initiates healing in nonhealing wounds as well as accelerating normal wound-healing by increasing vascularization, stimulating fibroblast mitrosis and migration, and increasing collagen synthesis by fibroblasts. The composition is also applied to tissue to facilitate the growth of hair.

Topical application of the compositions to areas of tissue containing hair follicles has also been found to promote hair growth where no growth or limited growth was previously observed.

EXAMPLE IV
A diabetic patient who had received a renal transplant and had had a below the knee amputation (“BKA”) was treated with a composition prepared as described above. The composition was applied to the patient’s stump, including a portion of tissue containing hair follicles, for a period of approximately 31/2 months. After treatment, significant hair growth was observed in the area of treatment with the composition where no hair had previously been observed.
EXAMPLE V

Four patients were treated with a composition prepared as described above, with the exception that the platelet buffer used did not contain human serum albumin.

In all four patients, after treatment, significant hair growth was observed in the area of treatment with the composition where NO hair had previously been observed.

Angiogenic peptides . US Patent 5,470,831 - 28.11.95

Selecting amounts of platelet releasate for efficacious treatment of tissue . US Patent 5,599,558 - 04.02.97

Anti-inflammatory peptides . US Patent 5,776,892 - 07.07.98
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=5,776,892.PN.&OS=PN/5,776,892&RS=PN/5,776,892

Enriched platelet wound healant . US Patent 6,303,112 - 16.10.01
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6,303,112.PN.&OS=PN/6,303,112&RS=PN/6,303,112

Enriched platelet wound healant . US Patent 6,524,568 - 25.02.03

PROCEDURE
Patient’s blood drawn.
Whole blood centrifuged & separated Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)activated into gel.
Gel applied to the wound.

I like this because its totally different to the norm. I also like the comment:

“In all four patients, after treatment, SIGNIFICANT HAIR GROWTH was observed in the area of treatment with the composition where NO hair had previously been observed.”

What i also found interesting is that, because the Patents are old, they have researched this product for nearly 20 years and have recently received FDA marketing clearance for its AutoloGel™ System for wound treatment (Sep 2007 - http://www.fda.gov/cber/seltr/k060007L.htm) and have ALREADY officially launched the AutoloGel™ System in the first quarter of this year, 2008…so its ALREADY being sold, albeit for wound treatment initially.

It also ticks many of the right boxes , it treats hairloss, inflammation, heals wounds & is angiogenic - all classic hairloss treatments.

Some of those patents show excellent results for wound healing & inflammation. The science appears to be quite good/strong.

Although it is initially being sold to treat wounds, it would be nice if this treatment were available “off-label” to apply topically to the scalp, as the Patent quite clearly says it can - and with very good results, including significant growth of hair where there was NO hair before.

Even if thats not possible, atleast its another promising avenue of research Cytomedix have already stated they “are actively seeking strategic partnerships and/or licensing opportunities for many of these uses. (including hairloss)” - so we appear to have another treatment option on the table.

The more the better imho.

Very impressive find. Amazing how this seemed to completely skip the radar of I think more or less everyone here.

Already FDA approved
Already tested and seen to work in humans
Actively seeking partners, specifically citing hair growth and hair transplants.

…the signs are good.

These posts definitely belong in the research section.

The technology reminds me of this article:

sounds good, when can we expect to hear more? market?» CYTOMEDIX CEO ISSUES SHAREHOLDER UPDATE - 16 Jul 08

“These posts definitely belong in the research section.”

Why ? Its already available right now.

Why tuck it away in the research section never to be seen again ?

Or are you saying to add it to the research section as well as highlighting it here ?

show me some before (NW7) and after (NW3 or better) photos please

if i lived in a country where this was available i would be doing my utmost to try this treatment and post my own before/after pics :0(

I know there are a few people in the research forum that would give this a try.
