Heart disease is serious, but hair loss can be serious too. Anything that wrecks millions of people’s lives IS serious and worthy of attempts to treat it.
It’s not our place to sit here and pass judgement upon whose life-wrecking situation is more worthy than whose. I’m just glad that the medical community is doing something about both problems.
I’m pretty young, and I have more hair problems than heart problems right now. If HM comes out in Europe before the States, then I’ll fly to Europe to get it done. Big deal. It’s an inconvenience but I understand it. I won’t harbor some kind of simmering hatred for the U.S. just because they released a baldness treatment 3 years later than some other country.

The problem with the shaved-head look & MPB is that most people only see shaved heads on the certain guys who can pull it off better than average.
It’s good that buzzed-down heads have become fashionable to some extent, but unfortunately it also breeds the assumption that it’s normal for guys to good with a shaved head. That assumption really diminishes the severity of MPB in the public’s minds, since all bald guys seem to have a perfectly acceptable “option” other than horseshoes & HTs.

There’s a young fellow that works in my neighborhood gas station with a shaved head.
Despite the shaving, the horseshoe shadow is plainly evident.
And my first thought on seeing fellows like him is that he shaved his head because he’s bald, not necessarily because he wants to.
Were I a woman, I’d shy away because either conciously or unconciously I would not want to end up marrying a guy who would give me prematurely bald sons.
I’ve had more than one experience of some hairy friend telling me that baldness doesn’t matter, even to the point that I would get the feeling the friend is actually beginning to think I am a fool or stupid for being so concerned about my hair loss.
Then years later some of those friends would start to loose their own hair, and suddenly they become basket cases, often handling it much worse than I have.
I remember one such friend who would preach to me about how it’s what’s inside and how you act that’s important, not whether you are bald or not. He would tell me that when he was around 40 and I was around 30.
Then about 8 yrs later, that same friend develops a two-inch bald spot in the back of his head, and he starts coming apart–moaning about how self-concious he feels when he sits down at a bar and the ladies walking past can see the top of his head!
Things like that leave me speechless–I had to to through that kind of thing when I was in college, and this boob has the luck to have a full head of hair well into his forties, and has the nerve to be upset by the first sign of his own hair loss after having preached to stupid and foolish me on how unimportant it is?
This is only a small part of what I mean when I talk about how much I’ve learned through experience about people and hairloss from having lived with it so long.

I can’t say that I agree with “nobody”. I certainly feel where you’re coming from though. I think the problem is that society has labeled baldness as a “bad” thing, that there is something wrong with people who are bald. We feel the negativity towards our baldness because of other people’s negative opinions about baldness. It seems to us that we have got the shit end of the deal, we were somehow unlucky in the evolutionary roulette and that’s why I agree with Ahab’s reply to my above post that it would be different for a burn victim. Why? Because they weren’t that way before; neither were we. Is it because they have been through something traumatic and life changing? So have we. Is it because they are looked upon by society as undeserving that somehow fate has jacked with their evolutionary chosen status, their fitness to reproduce? I truely don’t see a difference besides the fact that some burn victims are also severely disfigured in their faces?
