If anyone has used dutasteride for atleast 7 years please inform us of your journey and end result.
My understanding is that one of the two types of dht dutasteride blocks are also found in the brain. However, as much as we thought we knew about science, none of the dimwitt doctors know what the use of the dht in the brain is or what role it plays. Can there be possible potentially fatal results for long term dutasteride users?? I very much doubt that the dht in the brain is useless and just hangsout there.
I’ve been on Avodart (Dutasteride) since the 1st week it was released.
We took 2.5mg (don’t bother!) for the first 9 months then cut back to 0.5mg daily for the rest of the 7 + years.
So, the good news is , it holds the ground pretty well. If you want to slow down your hairloss by about 98% … this will do it.
Don’t expect one single new strand of hair.
I’d rather not be on it because the sexual side effects and pretty bad. Nothing that an occasional cialis can’t cure.
But at the end of the day, it delivered . I wanted to stop my hairloss and it did.
when you mentioned sides followed by a treatment of cialis then im obviously assuming your talking about erectile disfuntion (ed). were u taking any other meds or treatments with it? after taking dut when did you start experiencing the ed sides? have u been exposed to any other sides? wut was it like for being on 2.5mg dut for the first 9 months? why did u say not to bother with such dosage?
i guess many people respond differently. i know a few that have taken dut (along with other treatments) and their hair was visibly almost twice as much and/or thick.
thanks for sharing your experince with us and welcome to the baords.

I’ve been on Dutasteride 0.5mg since it came out. Started at 7 days a week then down to 5 days a week now on 3 days a week. No real side-effects other than slight decrease in libido. Hair still ok, not lost any more (I use Minoxidil 6% as well), maybe got a little back, not sure.
As for effects on the brain, yes Type 1 5 a-r is present in brain tissue but remember also that Dutasteride only inhibits around 50% of it I seem to recall whereas it is far more effective at inhibiting Type 2 (as is Finasteride which doesn’t inhibit Type 1).
Are we talking about 9 yrs here? No erectile disfunction at all? No notice in decrease of focus and memory?
Have you ever tried finasteride prior to taking dut? If so, for how long, how was your response, and were you getting same sides as you are on dut (libido loss)?
