This isn’t hairloss related, not directly anyway. I suffer from excessively oily skin and a decent amount of acne. The problem is I’m 23. For a few reasons I can’t go on Accutane, nor would I want to. My acne isn’t super serious but embarrassing none the less. The big problem is the sebum. I have been on every topical on the market, tried every alternative therapy including diet changes etc. Nothing works. So I decided to look up topical antiandrogens and this stuff seems to be the most promising. After researching further I released this stuff can only be bought in bulk in China. Hopefully someone would be willing to part with 1 gram or so of their stash (compensation would obviously be arranged) so I can experiment with making an antisebum concoction, maybe of 1% strength or so. I know there is a study which shows 1% was almost as effective as castration in controlling androgens in the skin. So maybe 1% would be even too strong. I haven’t found really anyone experimenting with this drug except with hairloss which is kind of surprising. Anyway, I don’t know where else to go for this stuff and it kind of is my last hope. I found that using dutasteride topically on the face by just using the capsule content really did the trick and reduced my facial oiliness a lot.

Yeah, I was about to post about this too. I was reading on this board that people have been using this for hair with pretty decent results. So it makes sense that some sort of topical solution would be great for oil. However, there are issues with dutasteride. While it does penetrate the skin, I’m going to assume that it may also get into the bloodstream. Also, what dosage would be appropriate in a topical for acne? Dutasteride is such a strong drug I would imagine you wouldn’t need much. I would imagine 1-2 pills in a 100ml solution would be more than plenty? I would be willing to experiment with this too if anyone has 2 or 3 avodart pills they would be willing to sell in the name of science. Actually, it made my hair fall out in droves and I lost a lot of hair over two years using it. I tried it on my skin to see if it had a local inhibition of DHT production. I just cut capsules and lightly spread the oil on the right side of my face for about a week and almost immediately it was evident that this side of my face was a lot less oily and beyond that of using dut orally.
Sorry to hear that about your hair, that’s a bummer. But the results of your facial application sound promising. If avodart is effective at reducing your sebum and (thus dht)at the site of application, have you considered applying dut to the scalp? In your case it might work if the oral dosage wasn’t strong enough. I would also imagine if topical application of dut to your scalp also failed, than your hair issues probably aren’t completely dependant on dht.
