Dear forum readers.
This is an interesting and different type of hairloss.
You can read more about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichen_planopilaris
This particular patient is a female and the disease process has stopped or stabilised for the past 2 years. But one has to keep in mind that hair transplanted can still be lost if there is a recurrence of the underlying condition (unlike in androgenic alopecia).
The patient must always be informed of this (as was done in this case).
She is happy with the progress as even in as little as 4 months there is a high amount of growth and aesthetic improvement. She has more scarred patches similar to these that she has decided to get transplanted in near future. The one we did in the first round was the most visible one.
We shall keep you posted on her progress.
Regards,
Dr. A
P. S. - 1. In such a case, neither the doctor nor patient should rush into getting a hair transplant. One has to be cautious and conservative.
2. The doctor should not raise expectations of the patient but should rather point out the possibility of recurrence of the underlying pathology. This will give the patient a balanced perspective and empower them to make a decision based on knowledge rather then conjecture.
