Will transplant hairs survive chemotherapy or radiation?

I watched this Farrah Fawcett story on TV (about her battle with cancer) and it got me worried. I had a hair transplant a couple years ago. I don’t have cancer but I can’t help but imagine what would happen to the grafts if unfortunately one day I have to have chemotherapy or radiation? Will the grafts and scars be exposed after radiation?

THINK POSITIVE.

I “think” you will be fine if you had FUE and only single 1-hair grafts done.

Chemo drugs target rapidly dividing cells which include hair cells. There’s nothing special about transplanted follicles. They’re still rapidly dividing cells. Of course, when treatment is discontinued all hair, including the transplanted, will likely grow back.

Do you think if it will be easy to spot that I had a hair transplant if all my hair fell out one day? I couldn’t find any pics in the forum

I had strip, and why 1 hair grafts are fine but not 2, 3 hairs?

Your hair would not fall out all at once. Any strip scar would be noticable. Any FUE scarring might be noticable, but likely to a lesser extent.

If someone did have chemo, the hair can indeed fall out very swiftly, in a matter of weeks or not even.

There is no escape for your STRIP scar. It will show for sure.

If you had 1-hair grafts done, chances are that you will be fine.

However, if your doctor placed 2 or 3-hair grafts in the recipient, they will show like mini plugs sometimes.

I will see if I can locate some photos from the archives.
