Small hair transplant means poor growth?

I have been a lurker for many months, I have one question which I couldn’t find answers anywhere, is it true that small hair transplant session of 500 or fewer grafts will give poor growth because of insufficient blood supply to the area getting the grafts? I am planning to have my first but I do not want to go all out and get thousands of grafts the very first time, bad idea?

i don’t think that small hair transplant has poor growth. Actually i think it has better results than those megasessions. If you transplant hair you actually damage your skin and it doesn’t make blood supply better in my opinion. i have read that if you have had ht megasessions and hing density per cm then you probably damage your skin much more and a lot of grafts just die because of that.

The only bad problem about small hts is this that you have to go and live thorough several surgeries before you have restored whole of your head. Probaly you waste more money for small hts too (more grafts you get more cheaper is the surgery)

A small hair transplant will not result in poor growth. of course much less area will be covered, so like other posters mentioned you may be going back for 3-4 procedures when yhou could have had it done in one.

Larger sessions do not mean poor growth either. Really what determines great growth is not if you are getting just 500 grafts versus 2,000 grafts. It is the skill of the doctor and staff plain and simple that determine the outcome of your procedure.

Who told you that? A salesman?

Years ago there where intense discussen wether or not large session would produce good results. I believe it has been proven beyond doubt that large sessions, wehter it be strip or FUE work, provided the team has loads of experience.

If large sessions work, why should small sessions not work?

Beats me.

Dear gp3,
This is the first time I have come across such a question. Probably, that is why you have been unable to find answer to the same. People do, sometimes, go for small sessions. Especially, if its their first time and they are not very confident of the outcome. However, as pointed out by various other posters, the growth has more to do with the skill set of the operating clinic then anything else.
If you paln to go for a small session at start, I would advise you to go for a FUSE/fue instead of a strip.

Let me know how everything goes and do not hesitate if you have any queries.
Regards,
Dr. A

This, i dont think is logical. Isnt FEWER grafts a positive thing?

Larger sessions are very successfull these days rather it be FUE or Strip. However not every clinic can do megasessions, it is a specialized skill that takes a very well trained staff and a commitment by the doctor. It is important to choose a clinic that specializes in larger sessions.

Smaller sessions should have just as good of growth. The downside is, smaller procedures mean more sessions, more downtime, more travel and often in the end cost the patient more money.

It was posted in this forum a couple months ago if a larger area is worked on you get more blood supply and that is essential for grafts survival. I hope I am wrong about this as I prefer not to have anything major done the first time.

Thank you Dr. A. I have a lot of respect for your work, not to mention the attention to details for every photo/video.

Yes it is wrong, in fact it is pants.

In fact some clinics argue that high density transplants actually deliver a DECLINE in yield and it is better to do transplanting in more than one pass for a specific area, however, other clinics disagree.
