Dear forum readers,
I have often wondered how patients from distant parts of the world can assess the true extent of improvement, after hair transplants, in our patients.
Not everyone has the time or the resources to go meet the patients in person.

I decided to put the results to extreme test.

Our patient Mahi, graciously, agreed to feature in the video shoot.
We decided to videoshoot Mahi in different day to day situations - in office, in market, in car…

Then we took it a step further. We videotaped Mahi’s haircut and styling.

For this purpose, the celebrity hair stylist Jawed Habib, acted as the unbiased reviewer as well as stylist.

For those who do not know about Jawed Habib, here’s a link

Dear Hangininthere,
Mahi has another 3000 grafts available from the scalp donor areas and 3000 from the beard donor areas, should he require them.

Dr. A

Thank you very much Dr. Avind. I once commented that it is difficult for us to assess the quality of some of your HTs due to patient styling choices. These pics are extremely helpful and highlight another excellent result from your clinic

no question Dr A does outstanding work
but his comment that the patient basically has almost run out of scalp donor. 3000 grafts left. and is crown is rapidly thinning, means that in about 5 yrs the crown will be gone and no way can he replace it with 3000 grafts,

it seems that the big dilemma is not docs who do quality work but the future lack of donor hair to chase the ever balding scalp

6000 grafts is good enough to cover the crown area. Didnt that other patient, GM I think cover his crown using 2500 beard hair grafts? Mahi’s present crown looks better then GM’s pre HT crown.

Hairstyle makes a big diff in appearance.
Very nice result.

That’s true too. Hangins point is that as we move to type VI, does HT finally offer a sollution. If it does then how many rounds. People lke hanging have been very negative about HT for type VI. Is it time for them to accept that it is now do-able???

doable with body hair assuming you have 100,000 dollars hanging around
but even with an extra several thousand body hair grafts, if you really head towards NW7 you will regret having ever gotten a transplant, since you will have a bald ring around the thickly transplanted top, with no way to fix it

Dear Hanginginthere,
I understand your concerns. Incomplete hair restorations will be the bane of future hair transplants.

However, the current level of techniques enable suitable patients to have >10,000 donor graft reserve. That includes beard and scalp donor areas.
I have not included the robust body hair while calculating these reserves.

Key word being suitable patients.
There will be those that will not qualify for such ambitious approaches. I know of people who have minimal/no beard hair. Obviously, they do not qualify.
The doctor and the patient will have to see where they stand in terms of donor availability before they start the hair transplant journey.

As for Mahi, he is scheduled for another HT for the crown area in near future.

In conclusion, thorough patient and HT physician education is vital to proper planning of hair transplants.

Dr. A

Dear forum readers,
Modern hair transplants are increasingly about more hair and less illusion.
Therefore, we decided to up the ante.

The shampoo test is an informal term for subjecting the hair transplant to everyday extreme conditions.

Shampoo and thorough documented head shower with the patient outside the clinic’s controllable conditions.

Video, bright overhead lights, vigorous shampoo and witness galore.

We decided to showcase one of our results of hair transplant.

I hope other good doctors will follow suit with similar documentation of their patient results.

You can view the first video of a series at

Your suggestions on further improvements are welcome.

Regards,
Dr. A

That is a very nice way to present the result. Dr. Arvind is not only the best doctor, his clinic has taken presenting results to the next level.

Love the shampoo test.
