Does anybody know if dutasteride causes one to be constantly tired/lazy, out of energy, drowsy at times? I even have trouble getting out of bed after many hour of sleep.
I’ve searched the internet for these side effects of dutasteride but nothing came up. Past few consequtive days I’ve been feeling these tiredness feelings. Hurting my work.

Dizziness can also occur.

Funny you mentioned dizziness because I get light headed when I’m brushing my teeth in the morning. Dizziness - lightheaded, samething I believe.
Do you know whether or not these effects ware off after a while? Is there anything to counter attack these side effects? Maybe I should drop from 0.5mg daily to 0.5 mg eod?

If they persist you need to consult your doctor who may either stop the medication or adjust the dose.

Now I’m 100% normal at my daily dosage of 0.5mg. Even this will be decreased to every other day after 7-8 months because of the relatively long life of dut in the body. Everyday for ever is meaningless.
I’m curious as to wether or not dutasteride, minoxidil, and or other medications are permitted in the Canadian Forces; especially being that most of us buy meds without prescription. If anyone has an idea feel free to give your input. THat includes you too Hairsite

It is common place to have a higher libido when first starting finasteride or dutasteride. You will eventually have a reverse feedback loop and your sex drive will start to decrease around the 3 month mark.

Bryan, correct me if I’m wrong in for the following reasons…
"The speed by which drugs are eliminated from the body are measured by a value which is called “half-life”. The half-life of finasteride is six to eight hours whereas for dutasteride it is four to five weeks, which means that when one stops taking dutasteride, it will take several months before the drug is out of the system. When blood DHT was measured in these patients 12 weeks after stopping the medication, the finasteride treated patients had a normal DHT level while the dutasteride 0.5 still showed a 10% decrease and the dutasteride 2.5 mg treated patients still had significantly lowered DHT levels.
“Side effects of dutasteride which have been reported in the treatment of prostatic enlargement are 1) breast tenderness and enlargement, and 2) reduced sperm counts. In a separate study of 28 patients treated with dutasteride 0.5 mg daily there was a significant decrease in sperm count at 26 weeks of treatment. That study states that it is difficult to determine the significance of these sperm count abnormalities and that the reports vary as to what sperm counts are required for fertility. It is quite concerning that two of the 28 patients in the study had a greater than 90% decrease in sperm count while taking the medication and 24 weeks after stopping the drug, they still had a 70% reduction in sperm count. Although the study did not give figures on the percentage of patients that developed sperm count abnormalities, this side effect, in my opinion, is worrisome especially since we commonly treat young men for male pattern hair loss. It should be noted that finasteride 1 mg (Propecia) was shown in a separate study to have no effect on sperm count.”
Every other day becaus A) It stays in your body for an extremely long time as explained above and B) It can vastly decreases sperm count. Hopefully every other day dosages of 0.5mg will not be as bad.

I’ve contimplated on this incase I was effected by this noted sife effect. I was considering, if necessary, using other supliments/meds to counter attack the side efffect. Thus increasing sperm count and libido.
By the way, I used to take 1.25 to 2.5 mgs daily with no sexual side effects whatsoever. Took it straight for about 18-24 months, then skipped days… eventually stopped altogether.
As I have mentioned in many of the earlier posts, side effects like loss of libido is more of a ’ nocebo’ phenomenon rather than a real side effect.
The terminal elimination half-life of dutasteride is about 5 weeks at steady state (average 40 ng/ml). Following daily dosing of 0.5 mg, 65% of steady-state concentration is achieved after 1 month and approximately 90% after 3 months. Steady-state serum and semen concentrations are achieved at about 6 months. On average, semen concentrations are 11.5% of serum dutasteride concentrations in healthy patients at 1 year. Because of the long half-life of dutasteride, serum concentrations remain detectable (> 0.1 ng/ml) for up to 4 to 6 months after stopping therapy.

I can understand that you’d want to use a lower dose to reduce the possibility and/or severity of side effects, but I still don’t understand your point “A” above. Why would you want to use it every other day, just because it stays in the body for a long time? What do you think is the connection between those two statements?
FYI, the amount of dutasteride in your blood is directly proportional to the dose that you take. If you cut your dose in half by taking it only every other day, you will cut the amount in your blood in half (actually, there will be a little LESS than half in your blood, because of dutasteride’s non-linear elimination characteristics).

WOW, AND THE SHED HAS BEGUN. It’s more than I’ve ever experienced because in a matter of a few days my entire scalp from hairline to crown has thinned drastically. I can only imagine it will get worse; but optimistic it will all grow back thicket stronger and in abundance. I’m risking it and will hang in there regardless.
I’ve been forced to cutmy hair short (always had it long or medium length) beause long hair and thinned out looks awful. Atleast short and dry will some what illusion it of a thicker head.
do keep us updated… how are your side effects coming along? have they improved? dizziness, memory impact, libido?

Other than the shed I’m noticing, I do not experience any sides at the moment.
The lazy zombie-like feelings no longer exist. No dizziness and as far as I’m concerned no memory impact (unless I’m not aware of it), and my libido is as good as ever. My ejaculations are super duper strong.
If there is anything else I can take in combo with dut besides minox I’m all for it. Minox is shytmessy. Can’t stand the mess from it at all. I haven’t used any of it for over a week.
Re-Note: My hair on my head from hair line to crown has thinned drastically to a point where I convince my self that I don’t care; cause if I did it would cause me to stop dut and get really become stressed/depressed over it.
Most upsetting times are when we see photos of our selves not too long ago and say that we’d do anything to have our hair back. Simply amazing how the hair on our heads changes the appearance of our entire face.

Hey mj, did you see any benefits from minox when you were using it?
Yes dave. I think out of all the treatments I’ve ever used, minox gave the best results. In sum, it thickened and grew back hair that were very noticable. It’s a shame I can’t tolerate the mess from it. Keep in mind I would use 4ml twice a day all over my scalp.
