Just Started Generic Avodart (Dutasteride) 2.5mg Daily

» Note: Although this is approx 12-13 months update on dut, the difference
» between the photos is only 10 months.
»
» This is NO minoxidil treatment.
»
» I have been using niz 2% for a few months now.

Here’s a comparison of my crown only 4 months later from the above pic taken in January 2010 which was at the time 13 mnths into dut. This is 17 months into dut.

Now you see why I’m complaining of hair loss since the time I began Avodart? I can’t put a finer on it. It’s like that all over my scalp. And mind you in the above pic my hair was not only lighter which makes it more transplarent, but the hairs were combed “away” from the crown which reveals more. In this new pic all my hair is combed back which is suppose to conceal the crown the most.

Crown 17 mths post-dut / Hair wet right out of the shower with gel applied to wet hair.

» » » » » » » » Recap: I’ve been taking 0.5 mg weekly since approx begining
» of
» » » » » » December,
» » » » » » » » because I was low on my supplyand had now idea when I would
» » get
» » » » » more.
» » » » » » I
» » » » » » » » improvised by stretching my doses. Recently I received a
» new
» » » » order
» » » » » » so
» » » » » » » in
» » » » » » » » order to get back to normal I figured I’d take 2.5 mg daily
» » for
» » » » the
» » » » » » » first
» » » » » » » » 10 days again as a loading stage.
» » » » » » » »
» » » » » » » » Today I’ve complered taking the 2.5 mg loading stage.
» » HOORAY.
» » » As
» » » » » of
» » » » » » » » tomorrow back to taking 0.5 mg daily.
» » » » » » » »
» » » » » » » » Shedding has decreased a lot past few days, but not totally
» » » » stopped.
» » » » »
» » » » » » » But
» » » » » » » » it has shed to make my hair appear limp and think again.
» But
» » » no
» » » » » » » worries. I
» » » » » » » » went through worse last yr and the hair comes back with
» » » vengence
» » » » »
» » » » » » » »
» » » » » » » » Note: My new order of dut is not generic, but the actual
» » » Avodart.
» » » » » It
» » » » » » » would
» » » » » » » » be interesting to see if there’s any noticable difference.
» » » » » » »
» » » » » » » Hey fellas (and fellettes), I noticed my crown is filling in
» » » » » noticably
» » » » » » »
» » » today!!!
» » » » » I’m
» » » » » » » so*#^%# Happy, seriously. The top that was seriously
» thinning
» » » has
» » » » » » filled
» » » » » » » in greatly as well. My shedding stopped these past few days,
» » but
» » » I
» » » » » » styled
» » » » » » » my hair again *wet (been wearing a cap lately) and it’s
» looking
» » » » » superb.
» » » » » »
» » » » » » » I’ll be taking some picures of my frontal transplanted area
» for
» » » the
» » » » » HT
» » » » » » » forum for an update, so I’ll take some photos of my crown and
» » top
» » » » as
» » » » » » well
» » » » » » » for an update here.
» » » » » » »
» » » » » » » Everything is looking AWSOME. :ok:
» » » » » »
» » » » » » Congrats - you sound like a good responder to Dut. My own
» » response
» » » » » after
» » » » » » six months or so have not been spectacular. Better than
» Proscar,
» » » but
» » » » » » nothing like you’re describing.
» » » » » I would give it “atleast” one year. And consider
» adding
» » » » » niz2%.
» » » » »
» » » » »
» » » » » I tried something differently recently and noticed a vast
» » difference.
» » »
» » » » I
» » » » » went without niz 2% for a week and my hair feels and seems
» nowhere
» » » near
» » » » as
» » » » » thick and dense like when I do use the niz. I can even notice
» this
» » » » when
» » » » » styling my hair - it’s more limp.
» » » » »
» » » » » Aside from the fact that niz 2% combats hair loss to a certain
» » » degree,
» » » » » it’s superior to any other topical for giving your hair a very
» » thick
» » » » » feeling and look.
» » » » »
» » » » » I was going to take some photos of the top as I promised I would,
» » but
» » » » » decided not to as I didn’t really like what I saw (noting I DID
» » shed
» » » » pretty
» » » » » bad just recently).
» » » » »
» » » » » On a side note, when the crown fills in… how exactly does it
» fill
» » » in?
» » » » » Does it close in form the perimeter towards the centre, or it
» just
» » » » » gradually thickens up all over… or perhaps both?
» » » »
» » » » Nizoral really thickens up hair. My hairs (the ones I haven’t lost
» » to
» » » the
» » » » shed) and SO thick now, and I use to have very fine hair. It has
» » » changed
» » » » the color and texture of my hair to an extent - I have light brown
» » » hair,
» » » » but some of my hair is now jet-black (especially the thick hair).
» » » Also,
» » » » those black hairs have a little kink too them, like someone put
» them
» » in
» » » a
» » » » crimper. But they are REALLY thick, like 3 to 4 times thicker than
» » the
» » » » rest of my hair.
» » »
» » » Fully agreed^. I just hope this thickening it temporarily provides
» to
» » the
» » » hair plays a part in hair loss prevention to some degree or another.
» » I’d
» » » hate to think that all niz is doing is providing thickening post
» » » shampooing.
» » »
» » » I’m very confused as to whether or not I should start using
» minoxidil.
» » I
» » » have tons of supply but I always procrastinate. I’m a good responder,
» » but
» » » can’t handle the fact that I can’t use hair styling products or wash
» my
» » » hair for atleast 2 hrs after application. And the fact that if I use
» » it
» » » within 3 hrs prior to going to bed I wake up with my pillow yellow
» and
» » » greasy! wtf :frowning:
» »
» »
» » Just when I thought shedding halted, my hairs still shed. Not too bad
» to
» » be concerned with, but it is a shed in the shower nonetheless. For
» some
» » strange reason my hair is not as thick as it used to be.
» »
» » I’m not sure if has to do with the fact that I’m growing my hair
» (finally
» » got a small pony tail), but I hope it gets thick again soon!
»
» Still shedding and it’s becoming noticable!!!
»
»
»

Still shedding, especially the sides and back of the head. Don’t recall shedding back and sides of head before. Is that a good sign?

Mj, are you going to stay on Avodart, or are you planning on getting back on generic dut?? Why did you initially switch from gen to Avodart?

Dave, I’d be a hypcrite if I quit now lol. I’ve always said we MUST hang in there through sheds. Although, my heart always urges to switch I just can’t. I switched because I found medical studies and journals proving generic to be underdosed. Perhaps thats why Im shedding?..I don’t know!! But I do know that I JUST stepped out the shower and I have officially clogged the drain

if scroll up you will find a pic of my crown I posted about a week ago. It’s worse than before.

I noticed my hairs were shedding less in the shower last week but paid it no mind. However there was barely any shed today; I am PLEASED TO ANOUNCE I DID NOT SHED!I’m thrilled and very glad I did not quit. The shed lasted 4 damn months (approx). This was my second shed since starting the treatment.

Lets see what happens from here. I look forward to a batch of regrowth and thickening in the upcoming months!

Note: My interpretation of this second massive and super longated shed is that I switched from Dutasteride to Avodart. I posted links on the forum here previously proving that generic drugs are underdosed by up to 30% of the name brand drug. Look the links up - they’re very informative and since reading it I never use generic “anything” anymore.

Not only were the erections much harder, but I
» also noticed that 3 out of the 4 times I came, I shot my cum a few feet
» ahead. Way over and passed my girl’s head (military style).

Damn you go boy!

I don’t understand why you would experience any kind of shedding from Avodart since it is not a regrowth stimulant, as far as I know. But it is superior to finasteride.

http://dutasteride.org/dutasteride/dutasteride_results.htm

Maybe there is a legitimate generic but I wouldn’t consider it. If money is a problem I would drop all of the other stuff like Nioxin and Gingko. You might take some arginine if you are wanting to add a supplement since it boosts nitric oxide. But the extra Avodart would far outweigh any possible benefits from that other stuff. In fact I would bet that Nioxin and Gingko are worthless for hairloss.

eh it’s not a regrowth drug but a lot of people including myself have experiened decent regrowth. Somewhere in this thread I posted before and after pics of my crown showing excellent regrowth.

No, me mentioning I was using nioxin was back in december 2008. That only lasted a few weeks and never used it again. Excellent cleanser and shampoo, but won’t do jack sh*t for hairloss. And gingko biloba I just started using again but not fot hairloss. For the past yr it’s been dutasteride/avodart and nizoral 2% shampoo, that’s all. Not even minoxidil. My gains thus far has been mostly attributed to dut in but thickening and regrowth, and niz has played a vital role in halting and thickening to a degree as well.

Awesome! Great news Mj! Keep me posted on the regrowth to come, especially after a four month shed!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow I am so glad that Avodart ahs has worked so well for you. And of course there is good reason to use Nizoral. Congratulations!

A quick update; my shedding has officially stopped, however it’s really upsetting to see the degree of loss my scalp took. Nothing I do can hide the thinning on my vertex/crown, which was once unnoticable, managable, and styleable.

It’s moments like this where I can understand why the majority quit avodart when witnesses these sheds. I would say this has been the worst shed I have experienced to date. But I am very optimistic in the latter months. If I went through a horrible shed almost 1 yr ago and experienced great results afterwards, I can’t imagine that wouldn’t be the case this time again.

If you’re an avodart/dutasteride user who’s experienced similar instances with sheds and regrowths feel free to provide your insight.

I placed another 6 month supply order of brand name avodart so I don’t run into “out of supply” inventory again like I did last time.

Mj, where do you get your brand name Avodart? I’m thinking about doing the switch also…

As I already asked about the best <>hair loss treatment to prevent hair loss but didn’t get the proper replies so please suggest me about the various hair loss treatments…
Thanks…

There are only two: Propecia and Minoxidil

The rest are experimental. Only a fool, like the one that created this tread, would try unproven methods.

Maybe this fool will experiment with effects of various sleeping pills.

This fool has better hair than all the gorilla males in your family put together. And this fool is experimenting with your mommy tonight… but I don’t kiss and tell… but you may watch our video

i’d stick with propecia/finasteride and minoxidil. Avodart is a hit and miss because most people dont have the balls to go through the sheds like i have TWO times in a row. if you want to be a peanut like alphapuss then stick to propecia and minoxidil and be jelous of “fools” getting real results on avodart. If you try it and dont like your results, then you can give avodart a try… but try propecia first. I wouldnt get off avodart even if I was offered a free hair transplant. I’ve seen great results after my massive sheds. Good luck.

To those following this thread, I thought I’d give an update as to how things are coming along. In short, it’s the one of the worst choices I made. My crown is twice as bad as I first started. My vertex (zone 2 particularly) looks like sh*t literally. My awsome and nothing short of amazing hair transplant at the hairline and temples is now see through, almost obvious looking transplant. I’ve been shedding terribly for 6 months now. I’m so depressed I lost my transplanted hairs.

I always read that dutasteride/avodart hurt people’s hairlines, but I didn’t think it would happen to me because mine were transplanted hairs. I couldn’t be further from the truth.

Now I am stuck as to whether or not I should stick with avodart or stop it. if I stick with it I risk my hair getting worser. If I stop it and get on propecia, I fear the shed. WILL MY LOST HAIRS FROM DUT REGROW ON PROPECIA?!?!

For those currently using avodart and have not reached 19 months yet, I would recommend thinking twice.

Month after month I just kept going and going saying the shed is normal, its a good thing, and just continued my daily doses. 6 months shed? Is this normal? I mean really bad sheds.
What the fukc do I do.

I should also add that up to december of 2009 i used dutasteride generic for 13 months with great results. All this shedding non-stop crap has been happening since I began the brand name Avodart since around February this yr. I think it was too strong or something.

I would definitely discuss this with el duterino and a couple more experienced dut users. I have used dut since 05 and have maintained my hair since then only to increase the dosage by .5mg over the past year. I have noticed though, that any deviated in dosage, soon leads to a shed no matter how small the change.

After countless hours of research and correspondence with doctors specializing in the hairloss field, I’ve pretty concluded that I’m experiencing Telogen Effluvium.

Knowing TE is usually reversable on its own, will I have to stop Avodart for my hairs to regrow back or continue with avodard and my hairs will grow back anyway? If someone can answer this question it would be great.

DUT / Avodart is FDA approved to fight against hairloss just as Propecia. MJ2003 knows more about hairloss and the medications then most I have come across.

He should be commended for making this thread and documenting his experience they way he has.

Alphapulse, calling him a fool makes you look foolish, not him.
