Interesting new research at UCLA, but still long way off

Yeah I heard this on the radio and thought that hairsite would be overrun with posts. here is an article with more detail. Any of the science guys have a comment on the mention of peptides or acidic environment???

Heres the actual article

Where can this be purchased? If it is a peptide. Someone makes it.

Here’s a different CRF blocker. Not a peptide. Don’t know if it would have the same results. Somebody would have to try it.

Looks promising but of course it’s gotta be tried and proven in humans. Would be nice to pop a few pills every month and get hair growth that lasts for 4 months or so.

Of course mice happen to be great at regrowing hair, almost anything works on them-it isn’t always so rosy when they try it on humans. Did they indicate when they might have human trials? I didn’t notice any such remark.

check this out, looks good!

I doubt it’ll cure most cases of baldness, as it doesn’t take care of DHT. Only a drug that has growth factors orstem cells of some sort can regrow minitaurized hair. Plus a drug like ASCJ-9 to counteract the effects of DHT, or better still gene therapy to fix androgen issue would be the ultimate cure.

Last line from that article is epic: “The mice, shortly after getting their looks back, were euthanized.”

well DHT is only ONE factor. Reducing the DHT by many magnitudes as done by Dustasterid and Propecia hasn’t proven to be very efficient.

Perhaps follicular sensitivity to DHT is activated by stress hormones or something. Who knows. It’s a complex issue in a very complex field (Biochemistry). You shouldn’t be making such general statements , since nobody really knows.

up, sounds interesting. I saw it on french news too …

here’s the patent

anyone knows about this astressin-B thing ?

cheers

You’re right, its a complex issue. We’ve heard of freak cases of people growing hair i.e. gifinitab guy, people who were on immunosuppressants, a guy who used a mixture of oils, some people get good regrowth out of propecia. However, the thing is that you can’t replicate these results over and over, so baldness is much more complex than a one pathway issue. Thats why I said removing stress factor wouldn’t do much in terms of baldness, it might help a few guys out there but not all, they need to come up with a multi-pronged approach.

"So could it work on us? Have we found the panacea for our pitiful pates?

“That is a big question,” Mulugeta said. “We really do not know yet. But from our observation it appears that this antagonist somehow turns on the hair cycle in bald individuals.”

The team, Mulugeta said, has been swamped by interest from media and private companies and plans to continue its research if it can secure funding."

I think that’s our answer for now, they don’t know if it’ll work on humans till they do further research. Good to know they’ve gotten a lot of interest from private companies-so just hopefully this might lead to some treatment.

I read somewhere that someone else discovered this in 2007 but nothing ever happened; however, I cannot confirmed that information.

i read in today’s news that it would be 5 years until they test it on humans.

Boring, as usual…

BACKGROUND

[0004]Hair loss is of concern to a large number of men and women. In many individuals, hair loss (i.e., alopecia) causes embarrassment, and/or psychological problems such as depression. Although alopecia is more common in men (e.g., male pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia) than women (e.g., female pattern baldness), it is a significant concern to both men and women. Indeed, millions of dollars and countless hours of research have been dedicated to solving this problem.

And here is the proof …
