I am ± 3 years on Avodart. From the beginning on I had some kind of a brain fog and a light form of a headache on daily use of Avodart. This is something like, hard to concentrate, problems with short term memory and to my opinion decrease of temporary intelligence. For example, now and then I have problems with speaking, finding the right words and solving and judging problems.
Before using Avodart I had none of these problems. Now, this problem is getting worse. I don’t want to loose more of my hair, therefore I am still on Avodart. But I want to change it to taking a pill every other day.
My question is, what will be the amount of DHT decrease on 0.5mg Avodart every other day??

If I were you I would try to quit dut for a couple of month, so to see if the brain fog disappears… Your hair is not going to get worse in such a short time. Then consider the option of an EOD administration. The level of DHT you will achieve will be enough to save your hair…

I used to think the samething. It’s all in the head. There is no scientific evidence that dut causes such side effects. Only internet claims.
I had begun avodart with the hope of regrowing hair. There has been no visible regrowth. I maintained the hair, but now my hairline is fading away, receding quit fast. If the most powerfull drug for hairloss isn’t stopping my hairline then there is no need for me to undergo all these side-effects with daily use of it.

If you get off the dut EVERYTHING is going to go. Be sure you’re aware of the consequences before stopping. Try decreasing dose frequency rather than stopping.

I won’t quit Avodart, I want to decrease the dose to a level so that I keep most of my hair and don’t have the side effects.
Does nobody know how much DHT is blocked with 0.5mg every other day??

Sorry I don’t know the numbers for you, but if you want to drop the dose to decrease your sides yet maintain your duts effectiveness, then I think it would be better to a dose of 0.5mg weekly, or twice/weekly. Taking dut every other day compared to taking it everyday is barely going to show any difference at 3 yrs of usage. You can even use 0.5mg every day for 12-18 months and then drop to using only 0.5mg one time per week to maintain your results. I know because that’s what I’ve been doing. I used it for a year at an everyday dose of 0.5mg and then dropped it to just one dose a week of 0.5mg. My results have not got better (more growth more thickness), but I have maintained what I have gained. it’s been almost 3 months now since taking a single dose of 0.5mg/week.

At this moment I don’t want to take the risk to switch to one or two pills a week Mj. I want to see if a pill every other day makes any difference in hairloss and side effects.
I once saw a graph where 0.1mg duta daily was as effective as finasteride (± 70% DHT reduction). If you take 0.5mg a week, this is a bit less then 0.1mg a day. Your DHT should be blocked around 60 - 65%? But I don’t know if there is a biological difference in taking a pill daily or the same amount once a week.
I hope you don’t get a sudden hairloss within few months!! At this moment your DHT levels should still be low, but due to the half life and the less amount you take it will increase further the next couple of months.

The half life is actually around 4 weeks of dutasteride. My dht inhibition is no longer the affect of my dut dosage from 3 months back. Although my dropping the frequency was not a choice I wanted to make. I was running low on a supply and had to make it stretch. So I improvised by doing what I did until I had more capsules. Now I have more capsules =) … hooray.
But your question has been asked before. I remember reading them here. if you do a little more research you might have better luck than me at finding those threads. This thread I’m posting is a similar question to yours and hopefully give you something to what you’re looking for.
