However, cultured dermal papilla cells lose the ability of inducing hair follicle formation after several generations in vitro culture. Our study is aiming in culturing dermal papilla cells in vitro and maintain their spherical structure before transplanting into dermis in vivo. According to ICX, they were able to culture DP cells in vitro, in high numbers, without losing their structure, using a special technique.
But as we know, this was useless, and TRC was a failure. Because numbers don’t matter. ARI is using scaffolds to hold the cells, and allow them to re-organize. Maybe this will work.
