Bloat Fat Puffy FACE - Minox Betrayed Me

I’m currently using minox 5% liquid 2x/daily, and have been for a month now.

I’m experiencing a bloated, fat, puffy face and I’m sure it’s from minox. Just to make sure, I even shed a few lbs of fat and my face still the same. My cheek bones are nearly hidden!, and loss the definition in my jaw and chin. I went from a square face to a basketball face. It can’t be my body fat because I’m ripped like crazy, and I’ve been “over-weight” for my height before, and still never seen this face of mine so bloated.

Does anyone know whether or not rogaine foam will make a difference?

Has anyone experienced something similar on minox liquid and cured the problem by switching to the foam?

Does anyone know the science behind why minox (liquid) causes bloated/fat/puffy face in some individuals?

Would anyone know if there’s an alternative topical to replace minox liquid?

I was considering dr. proctor’s proxiphen - any suggestions?

wow, this really stumped all the hairloss gurus? :lookaround:

Yes, swelling is a fairly common side effect. While taking Loniten (minoxidil) orally, a doctor usually prescribes a diuretic such as spironolactone to address this problem.

get off of it , no telling what else it is doing

minoxidil is basically a vasodilator, expands the blood vessels,
same thing is done by niacin,
are you on Maxi hair? what is your regimen

please post your current regimen in your signature, it makes it 100 times easier for others to offer their help or guidance
with no regimen posted, we are flying blind

My signature has been updated - good idea.

I just remembered one more thing because I was in the middle of doing my “supplement inventory”, if you will. One bottle of my 5% minox lasts me about 10 days. I use atleast atleast 3-4ml 2x/daily. Is it possible that this may cause a bloating/fluffyness in the face. I’ve used minox in the past with amazing results and did not have this fat-face side effect. Before any of you’s blow steam off for using such a large amount :stuck_out_tongue: , it is because I do not understand how anyone can cover the hairline, vertex, and crown with just 1ml! I need to get all the areas wet and that takes atleast 3-4ml - especially when you have long hair.

what do you mean you cant afford to get off it?
if i was getting side effects like that i would choose loosing my hair instead

reminds me of some of these guys who take cancer drugs becuase they have side effect of hair growth, even though they dont have cancer

that is nuts
i wont risk my health for my hair

I’ve been off minoxidil for a week now and cannot beleive the difference I am seeing. I actually look handsome again! My jawline and chin definition is back. This morning I started to take minoxidil again but only used 1ml instead of bathing my scalp with 4ml. Hopefully this will prevent the bloated face look.

I’ve had the same problem when using too much Minox.
It’s noticeable in pictures over the years.
When I cut down, my face has always returned to normal.

IMO, you’ve been WAY over medicating at 3-4mg 2x per day.
Certainly cut down on the dosage.

Twice a day with 1mg, tops.
Maybe once a day for a while.

Another suggestion would be to talk to a good doc about your experience.

Lastly, consider replacing your multi vitamin with maxi-hair vitamin.
I’ve been using it for years along with an additional MSM supplement and the thickness of my individual hair shafts has improved, IMO.

I used to take about 20 different bottles of pills, biotin, B100 timed release, A, E, C, etc etc etc etc
I started taking the Ultra Hair and it replaced all of them, but it is so expensive. The Maxi Hair is just as good

The reason these multis also work better than individual bottles it they have timed released Biotin, which for me was impossible to find,

This is a well-known (if not particularly common) side effect of minox. And as you’ve already seen for yourself, it is reversible by getting off it (I usually see the difference between 4 and 5 days).

I think you were definitely overdoing it. Try the recommended dose and see how it goes.

If it still happens you may have a tough choice to make.

You can find plenty of time-released biotin…you could years ago(as posted). You might as well just use time-released biotin in place of everything if what you say is true.

These time-released products are not good for the liver…but that’s been posted before as well.

Mj2003, how much does your avodart cost you per month?

Pats, it depends what you consider a monthly supply (dosage dependant).
You can do the math for yourself with how much dut you want to take and it’s frequency.

I ordered 300 dutasteride (genereric) capsules at 0.5mg each shipped from australia to the states for $260.00, and $30.00 delivery charge (about 2-3 weeks).

If you take 0.5 mg daily everyday, then that would be about a 10 month supply at a cost of about $30 per month. (Provided you skip the recommended loading stage).

They shipped it to canada for me where it got confiscated at customs. Then they shipped it to the states for me free of charge.

You’re the 3rd person along with hangininthere that has recommended maxihair. I am now obliged to order it lol thanks fellas.

I am considering goign back on minox now. But I’m leaning more towards the foam this time. i have heard it’s less irritating and dries super fast. Only concern I have is “HOW IN THE WORLD WILL i GET FOAM ONTO MY SCALP WHEN I HAVE LONG HAIR”?

Exactly. I have tons of different bottles. It came to a pointwhere I just stopped taking them all together. I was lost with what to take when and with what-especially being I take workout supplements too. An all-in-one bottle would be super handy right about now.

Wait, you’re in Canada Pats. The place I order from has trouble shipping to Canada. If you have family or freinds in the states, ship it to their address and they can bring it with them when visiting.

Hanging suggested maxihair to me as well. Let me know what you think of it MJ

Will do. But the amount of biotin in there may not be enough. I’ve read that a lot of biotin is required to affect the hair. Same with MSM. I’ve read in many places MSM is best in powder form as it contains thousands and thousands of mg per serving. The MSM in pill form may not be effective at all which is why I stopped taking it.
