Acne keloidalis Nuchae (Keloidal scar) treatment

#1

Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN) is a pathologic condition that clinically manifests as keloidal scarring with acne like features in the back and nape areas of the head. Pathologically, it consists of a lot of scar tissue and inflammation with even pus formation. In certain instances the keloidal scar could grow to very large dimensions to form a large tumor-like mass in the area. There is a higher incidence of AKN in people of color.

The condition arises spontaneously without a history of trauma or surgery

Shown in the video is the result of excision and trychophytic closure of one of the condition:

Scary, but what does this have to do with hair transplant?

» Scary, but what does this have to do with hair transplant?

Namely:

  1. Not all bad linear scars in the back of the head are HT related

  2. A corollary exists between the problematic treatment of AKN and that
of abnormal strip scars. A solution for one may provide new insight
on how to solve the other.
