Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN) is a pathologic condition that clinically manifests as keloidal scarring with acne like features in the back and nape areas of the head. Pathologically, it consists of a lot of scar tissue and inflammation with even pus formation. In certain instances the keloidal scar could grow to very large dimensions to form a large tumor-like mass in the area. There is a higher incidence of AKN in people of color.
The condition arises spontaneously without a history of trauma or surgery
