Just Started Generic Avodart (Dutasteride) 2.5mg Daily

» » I hope so cause you’re in for a surprise. I cannot believe the amount
» of
» » difference there is. Looking back at the photo taken last March of
» 2009,
» » and looking at my hair now you’d never believe it’s the same head.
» »
» » I take for granted how far I’ve come. Thanks to the spectacular hair
» » transplant I did with Armani in 2009 in the hair line and temples, the
» rest
» » is all restored with dutasteride. Things went exactly according to
» plan.
» » The best thing I’ve done is not stop dutasteride when I was nearly
» crying
» » from the massive shed over the 3 month period previously.
»
» That’s great! I’m hoping I’ll get the same response, but at 6 months I’m
» not seeing much difference (if maybe even a little loss). I forget - you’d
» been on Proscar before you switched? How long were you on Proscar and how
» did you respond to it?

No, I wasn’t taking anything for about 3-4 years. Before that I took it for about 18 months and responded pretty well to it. Especially to minox. but stopped cause I got busy and lazy.

» » The scalp produces natural oils to help hair grow.
»
» Nah, I don’t believe that. I don’t know of any evidence for it.

Hey Bryan, welcome back stranger. Do you think you can leave without your brain being picked?

This is regarding the loading stage when someone starts taking dut: 2.5 mg first 10 days, 0.5 mg daily thereafter.

I had to drop from using 0.5 mg daily to 0.5 mg once per week for the last 3 months (low inventory). I now just began taking 0.5 mg daily again. In order to speed things up, does the loading stage still apply? Should I take 2.5 mg for 10 days or can I get away with 1.5 mg for 10 days… and then 0.5 mg daily thereafter?

Huh?

I shed hair in the shower today pretty bad today. By the handsful.

It’s amazing how little time it takes the body to react to lower levels of dut in the system even though it has such a long half-life. :expressionless:

I don’t know why I’m shedding. it may because of the decrease or it may be just another thread. but one thing is for sure, I won’t be decreasing frequency again for a long time.

Recap: I’ve been taking 0.5 mg weekly since approx begining of December, because I was low on my supplyand had now idea when I would get more. I improvised by stretching my doses. Recently I received a new order so in order to get back to normal I figured I’d take 2.5 mg daily for the first 10 days again as a loading stage.

Today I’ve complered taking the 2.5 mg loading stage. HOORAY. As of tomorrow back to taking 0.5 mg daily.

Shedding has decreased a lot past few days, but not totally stopped. But it has shed to make my hair appear limp and think again. But no worries. I went through worse last yr and the hair comes back with vengence

Note: My new order of dut is not generic, but the actual Avodart. It would be interesting to see if there’s any noticable difference.

Hey fellas (and fellettes), I noticed my crown is filling in noticably today!!! I’m so*#^%# Happy, seriously. The top that was seriously thinning has filled in greatly as well. My shedding stopped these past few days, but I styled my hair again *wet (been wearing a cap lately) and it’s looking superb. I’ll be taking some picures of my frontal transplanted area for the HT forum for an update, so I’ll take some photos of my crown and top as well for an update here.

Everything is looking AWSOME. :ok:

Congrats - you sound like a good responder to Dut. My own response after six months or so have not been spectacular. Better than Proscar, but nothing like you’re describing.

I would give it “atleast” one year. And consider adding niz2%.

I tried something differently recently and noticed a vast difference. I went without niz 2% for a week and my hair feels and seems nowhere near as thick and dense like when I do use the niz. I can even notice this when styling my hair - it’s more limp.

Aside from the fact that niz 2% combats hair loss to a certain degree, it’s superior to any other topical for giving your hair a very thick feeling and look.

I was going to take some photos of the top as I promised I would, but decided not to as I didn’t really like what I saw (noting I DID shed pretty bad just recently).

On a side note, when the crown fills in… how exactly does it fill in? Does it close in form the perimeter towards the centre, or it just gradually thickens up all over… or perhaps both?

Nizoral really thickens up hair. My hairs (the ones I haven’t lost to the shed) and SO thick now, and I use to have very fine hair. It has changed the color and texture of my hair to an extent - I have light brown hair, but some of my hair is now jet-black (especially the thick hair). Also, those black hairs have a little kink too them, like someone put them in a crimper. But they are REALLY thick, like 3 to 4 times thicker than the rest of my hair.

Fully agreed^. I just hope this thickening it temporarily provides to the hair plays a part in hair loss prevention to some degree or another. I’d hate to think that all niz is doing is providing thickening post shampooing.

I’m very confused as to whether or not I should start using minoxidil. I have tons of supply but I always procrastinate. I’m a good responder, but can’t handle the fact that I can’t use hair styling products or wash my hair for atleast 2 hrs after application. And the fact that if I use it within 3 hrs prior to going to bed I wake up with my pillow yellow and greasy! wtf :frowning:

Just when I thought shedding halted, my hairs still shed. Not too bad to be concerned with, but it is a shed in the shower nonetheless. For some strange reason my hair is not as thick as it used to be.

I’m not sure if has to do with the fact that I’m growing my hair (finally got a small pony tail), but I hope it gets thick again soon!

» I’m not sure if has to do with the fact that I’m growing my hair (finally

Still shedding and it’s becoming noticable!!!

.

I’m still shedding since I transfered to avodart from generic dutasteride. It’s not only the longest shed I’ve experienced so far but it’s shedding outside the shower as well. On my shirt, pillow case, and running my fingers through randomly.

My head hasn’t appear this thin in a very very long time, if not the thinnest it has appeared to date. Even when really dry my scalp is visible which I don’t recall ever happening as obvious before.

So now we are at month 15 and up to date I will compare the gains of dutasteride to the time I took finasteride for about 2 years approx 5 years ago. Finasteride gave me better results compared with dutasteride for the same length of time taking both drugs. However, keep in mind I took minoxidil with fin religiously, and keep in mind that I doubt my hair loss was as agressive then as it is now, and avodart from experience is a very long haul to see dramatic improvements because of the on and off sheds.
I am now strongly considering adding minoxidil 2x daily to my daily dut and niz2% to maximize the effects as I am finally desperate!

Hopefully dut will hold us for now, till something better comes along…

Yeh, I’m with you on that one.

1- I want to note something. It’s not really dut related but interesting to know none the less. I am really starting to think that hardening your hair with hair styling products liek I do (wet hair, apply gel, style, hair spray, and blow dry) causes hair loss. BUT it’s not hair loss in the sense that it doesn’t return (i hope not) it’s hair lost due to breakage.

Sometimes I get lazy and sleep with all that gunk in my hair. It’s so hard that when I wake in the morning it hurts to move my hair. And in the shower I notice a shower of hairs shedding. I looked at most of the hairs and notice they didn’t have the bulb or white lip at the end of the hair. Which tells me the hairs broke. This is a good thing and bad thing. Good thing is I’m not too concerned as they will gradually regrow. bad thing is I need to ease up on my styling products :expressionless:

2- However, that still doesn’t explain why my hair is so limp, and dead these days. Especially after niz2% shampoo.

I don’t know if it has been spoken about here but there is a protein that can suppress anti androgens in prostate cancer men. Can this same protein help in fighting hair loss as well? it’s called Barrestin2.

I know what you mean. I’ve tried to limit myself in styling products & mostly rely on niz to get the job done. Is it hairs with the bulb still attached that are the ones in a “shed”? I have always wondered about that. I’m actually starting to come out of a shed which was started since I dropped from 2.5mg daily to just .5mg. The reason I dropped was that I was getting a something like a “roid rage” every day that not only I noticed but others did also. The gym couldn’t get rid of all of this. Hah. Also, I will have to look into the protein Barrestin2.

Some have bulbs, most don’t.

Barrestin2 doesn’t seem attainable. Rather, I’d look into Soy Protein form another study http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/full/137/7/1769

I’m looking into it myself and I don’t think it’s difficult to attain.

If all fails I’mm definetly going to be looking into purchasing some RU or fluridil. Inhibiting dht is only half the fight. Most of the issues are the androgen receptors themselves.
